Disc 11/18 Scorcher's story is killing me!

I don't remember being so bothered by some of Magnus's "issues" when I read this (multiple times) in my teens. Adult me is a little more put off. I can't decide if I should take it with a grain of salt because the book is old school (written in 1977) or if I should listen to my grown-up 2012 inner voice. I remember loving his character back then.

Oh, Jenny, there's a difference between being cautious, and being a door mat.

I love how time is being spent to really develop the relationship between Grace and Khalil.

This is a reread of one of my old favorites. Phyliis Whitney was one of my favorite authors when I was in Jr high and high school, and a favorite gothic romance author. Eager to see if this story still stands up.

There's a lot of detail in this story, but it doesn't feel like there's a lot of depth or character development. I'm just trying to stick with it because it's a book club read.

I had to stop listening to read/listen to my Book Club pick. *whine*

The story is enchanting, though I'm finding it a little slow going. I keep waiting for something to happen. Jim Dale's narration is wonderful, as ever.

I just made a connection with the hero, Fenris & how he's similar to Banallt, the hero of Scandal. Like Banallt, Fenris has (in the past) committed a great transgression against the heroine, despite being in love with her. The book's main conflict is the hero's attempt to redeem himself in the heroine's eyes. I think I really like this kind of plot. It makes for interesting tension between the hero and heroine.

Sookie, that was a TSTL move, right there.

I'm liking the characters and world, but the pacing feels a little off. The first scene started off with a bang, but slowed down there after. It feels like the pace is picking up again, now that I'm about a third of the way in. *fingers crossed*

I love how Tybalt calls Toby "little fish."

Chapter 15 I'm liking Andrea and Rafael, but what's really standing out is the secondary characters: Roman, Aunt Bea, Barabbas, etc., are making the book a really fun read.

Chapter 10 omg, Barrabas is awesome!

I'm really enjoying Sera's character. It's so different seeing things from the perspective of a truly submissive wolf and the internal conflicts that brings.

1st chapter feels more like the last chapter to the previous book…

I love how Miranda stands up to Smite.

Miranda's reaction to her first orgasm is worth the price of the book! ❤ it! Made me rewind and listen to it again.

I was hating the narrator, until I realized I had the audiobook set at 1.5 speed. Much better, now.
