This is a very well written engaging book but the fact that I was expecting a disgusting men aré disgusting memoir and not an addiction memoir seems to have triggered a whole lot of still unresolved adult child of alcoholics shit for me that I still have not seemed to be done working through and god damn I was not in the mood to think about anything deeply right now.

I am very partial to memoirs of New York art scenes anywhere between 1920 and 1990 especially when there are random pop ups of other artists incongruously and garland Jeffreys giving Chris stein a pep talk in a ymca while going on trips from the psych ward is exactly the kind of anecdote I live for.

My favorite kind of book is “memoir written by interesting person immersed in multiple artistic ‘scenes’ for lack of a better word” and my favorite part of *that* kind of book is when someone completely random and bizarre shows up (see, uma Thurman as a toddler in John Giorno’s book).
