This one is going to be a hard read for me. Main protagonist is really stupid and weak. My son says Daniels balls drop around book 6, and learns magic by 8 or 9. 8 or 9?!?! Ugh. I'm looking for an exciting protagonist and I have to wait 8 books to finally get one. It's going to take me forever.

To be outstanding everyone should be age 40 and rank 2 or even 50...then his age of 15 would really stand out.

Also, what's with the age thing...it's suppose to take you years to reach the next star in rank. He's at 15 and upper rank 2, the "experts" are in their 20's and are upper rank 2 and rank 3. That's not very long. Even if you make rank 2 at 30, that means everyone was rank 1 at 15, just like Xu Min...huh? Nothing special there. This will mean everyone will be rank 9 at 135 yrs old. Everyone is a martial genus!

The humor is kind of annoying. But maybe it's just not my cup of tea. Hard to sympathize with character when he doesn't improve at all, except when necessary. No mention of ice ability until it was needed. Not sure if I'll be able to finish this one. Great premise though. Wish it was thought out a bit more.

The biggest problem with this book is the repeating descriptions, in each chapter, from previous chapters. How many times do I need to understand how cultivation works? Apparently, every time it's brought up. Also, inconsistencies between description of how the sword works in the beginning and when he actually learns to use the sword. Not sure if I will be reading the next.

Bummer on the cover. The cover isn't showing the dreadlocks the book focuses on a regular basis. I keep picturing the cover when I picture Zita, but that's definitely not her on the cover.

One frustration I have is the constant re-telling of Dave's abilities. I'm halfway done with the book, I think I understand the conjuration powers and what he knows about his reasoning to play in Emerilia. If I hear it one more time, I'm not going to read the next book. It's ridiculous to constantly spout what you already stated a chapter or two ago.

Another irritation, when you make a character powerful in one paragraph, then you make them stupidly weak in the next. That is extremely frustrating. It means a reader can not believe what is truth. It's like you're letting the character lie to them self and the reader, very misleading. Ok..done ranting. ;-)

The story is a brilliant one. The execution of the story needs much work. I'm not finished reading yet, but because it is a long story, but I wanted to write my thoughts down as I progressed. The action in this story is well done, but there are parts that drive me a bit batty. In brieft, this story could be many books each being approx 400. So much could be expanded, mainly supporting characters, history, etc.

I will not be continuing this series. Mostly, because I hate the repeated descriptions and events in every chapter. Very annoying. I think I'll just get the manga and finish the series. I haven't decided yet. Love the story, just wish is wasn't in a light novel read.

Love the progress of the main character. Biggest issue I have with this book, which I can not get out of my head, is it reads like a comic book. Comic books are notorious for filling pages with what happened in the last book, or even the beginning of the series. VERY frustrating. This book is reading like that. Once I figured that out, I looked up the book in Manga series and sure enough, there it is.
