I really wanted to love this book. It started out promising with the whole meta nature of the story. But it quickly became overlong, drawn-out, repetitive, and then kept switching around the entire reality of the story. I think Ward found this clever, but it was just lazy and annoying. I made it 60% through and just couldn't take it anymore and put it down.

Interesting, but it’s troubling that there is zero mention of Lewis Latimer, the Black man who was indispensable to Thomas Edison’s creation of the light bulb. Not even a passing mention. It makes me wonder what else was ignored or glossed over in the research.

Did the author change from the previous book to this one? The writing is mikes better than the last two. The story and chars tmw has more interesting. Gone is the laughingly clunky exposition. I see other reviewers marking thus down because. It’s not like the show and really only has Varnabas in it, but as a standalone book, this is quite a well done gothic mystery.
