I can feel us encroaching into tragic levels only before seen in Flowers for Algernon.....if Algernon was blood soaked and on the rampage for mouse-flesh.

I can't put this down.

Maybe my most anticipated book of the year so far. The Subtance meets The Troop meets Thinner? I'm already there.

I'm sorry but who lets their 8 year old be outside by herself, riding a bike on the neighborhood street, alone, with no supervision? In what, presumably is 2025? We aren't talking playing with other kids in a group, or in a fenced in yard. This kid was alone for as long as it took you to have sex with your husband upstairs in your house? I'm no hover-parent but that pisses me off. Am I overreacting here?

I haven't really sussed out where we're going with this daughter storyline but I'm actually worried it's going to be very triggering for me.

I've got to say, I'm pleased that I have no idea really what's happening yet. But I'm sat and ready to see how things untangle.

I'm so fucking confused why Grace feels entitled to know who Calvin slept with before he even knew her. Girl, you've known him for one week

I think this is also what I am struggling with: we spend so much time being told how much Calvin is obsessed with Grace, but we never feel it. It's classic show vs tell. Just hearing "I'm obsessed with Grace!!" doesnt make me feel obsessed. I don't buy it.

And I am really getting sick of this catty stereotypical mean girl in-fighting behavior. One or two sly remarks is one thing but now, it is every word out of this girl's mouth. People do not talk like this. It's like we're in a poorly written teen drama.

Also is it not weird that an Airbnb host would make his space open for a guest the same weekend he was hosting a big party? On that same note I have Airbnb'd sooooo many times and I would rather eat glass than interact with the property owner- this whole dynamic is so weird to meeee.

I'm usually a fan of alternating chapter POVs, but the way they're handled here feel too abrupt. The chapters are too short (which is neeeeever a complaint of mine). Because the length of time here is so short, our POVs aren't alternating every day or so.....sometimes they're alternating within the same scene. Feels weird.

This strange romantic plot is certainly a setup for something else, but I think it's taking way too long to get through to the next step?

I don't trust EITHER of these people, come on.

I can't believe I've never fully read this- although I've certainly read enough excerpts over the years. Really excited about this one

ughhhh this ending is so insanely satisfying

Guuuh I forgot how angry this book made me when I first read it- the insistence and desperation of our main character, and the outright misogynistic gas lighting from all the men in her life (who happen to hold the power), is INFURIATING. But that sense of injustice serves to heighten the paranoia and FLING the plot forward. Such a fun book, regardless of how angered I am while reading.
