What a delight. It feels like listening to someone from a different era but hasn't forgotten how to play, silliness and the depth of joy from absurdity.

The message so far is: women exercise to make their bodies stronger, more resilient, and increased stamina. It is a radical, recent, and feminist idea.

I also like the parts where she mentions exercise clothes as radical, because no girdle! Clothes with give

I'm surprised how readable this book is. The cover made me think it would be more academic. Also I love what she is saying about masculinity masking.

Really good writing. Wow.

I think I would appreciate this book more if I was currently going through a breakup. Still impressive with clarity and poetry.

Pretty dark and trauma focused.

The MC is defiant, tough, traumatized. Loves animals.

It gets awfully dark. But I'd read it again. The mother daughter relationship is haunting. And, even if the portrayal of poverty feels a little myopic, I love a girl gang mystery with a Judas plot.
And the love story feels slow growing but beautiful.

It gets awfully dark. But still compelling.

My one complaint (beyond the slow beginning) is the view of a "low class" impoverished person.

I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying this. It has clear language with complicated concepts. And fun examples.

I appreciate the reader too, same as the author.

Very hopeful information 🙏🏻

I would pay good money to be allowed to edit this book for better pacing.

It's a fantastic story and the author's ear for sentences is impeccable.

It just has sections where action and character arcs lag.

The pacing in the beginning was slow.

Then the action really picked up and now I'm into troll wars.

The writer has a real ear for sentences and great character development.

I'm starting to see why people think this book is manipulative techniques rather than biological, psychological wisdom.

It makes me think of the distrust of makeup, not knowing "what someone truly looks like". As if the only honest, truthful way of communicating was straightforward and stoic.

To me, he's explaining the art of real connection, using tools from therapists and other cultures.

It's giving Anne of Green Gables in a magical troll world

This book keeps surprising me. Even though the message is strongly "don't make assumptions. Don't rely on your biases. Listen carefully, actively"

I have more biases than I thought. I'm a much less skilled listener than I thought. I find the practices in this book useful but not easy.

Woah!! Beautiful illustrations. I was already interested because it's the story of refugees without centering the aid workers. But the illustrations have really impressed me. And the story gives me goosebumps right away.

I'm surprised at the style of writing: conversational and logical. Full of useful anecdotes and looking at multiple points of view for negotiation.

I've wanted to read this book for a while but now I feel so excited by it.

Excellent textbook.
Really detailed and easy to use. Well organized.

Maybe the best for absolute beginners, but I've been pleasantly surprised with the level of detail and resources.

Nature and spirituality stuff. Like Annie Dillard meets Terry Tempest Williams. And Paul Simon meets David Attenborough.

It reminds me of when I was a midwife and used to go to births, staying up all night and seeing sunrises.

She has a real ear for sentences.

Didn't realize it would be more of a series than a novel.
Still fun and funny.
Pretty white centric.

The library copy was full of anti-feminism,/woman-hating notes someone had printed out and shoved between pages.
