I'm surprised by the quality of writing! The cover is ridiculous but the writing is great.
-great ear for sentences
-great class/cultural commentary
-great family and complex relationships
-great plot pacing
-great physical descriptions of clothes, village, atmosphere, etc

The spice is actually not very much of the story (despite the cover)
