Maribeth is reading Moloka'i (Moloka'i, #1)
So, so good. I am so interested in the end of Hawaii as and independent Republic, and native Hawaiian perspective of that- touched on lightly in this book. The main story is an imagining of true events, an isolated leper colony on the Island of Molokai. This book's main character, is Rachel- native Hawaiian girl sent to Molokai at age seven. The heartbreak, and shame, of her given family etc

Any book that is set in NYC, I'm there in my head. 😆👍 Dreaming of gelato now, too.

Spooky af. I've read other books of Mr. Nesbo, they keep me guessing until the end. I hate a predictable book.

100%, read it. Charming. Dysfunctional, tortured people learn how to appreciate the small things and mje peace with the past. Families find one another, etc etc. Oh, and everyone loves penguins, because they're adorable.

Maribeth is finished with If I Never Get Back
This book is a little wild. If you know the film, 'Somewhere in Time, ' you may notice the time travel as a plot device repeated here. There's other things of note; Fenians, train travel, race relations, alcoholism, baseball, family woes, friendships, baseball, gambling, Mark Twain etc etc. Fascinating

Maribeth is reading Fox & I
Some of her descriptions are beyond me, but I still appreciate them. It's interesting to learn little tidbits of the author's life which led to her "befriending" a fox. But, what she learns from the fox is the best of all. Read it for yourself. Plus, she loves the book 'the little prince,' and that's just superior taste.

Maribeth is finished with Self-Inflicted Wounds: Heartwarming Tales of Epic Humiliation
Amusing anecdotes of a recovering black nerd, her own words. I appreciate humor where the author makes fun at their own expense. This might make me a sadist, or maybe I just have a healthy sense of schadenfreude.

Maribeth is reading The Red Garden
I enjoy a good shot story. These were all enjoyable, and I liked how it built upon years/generations. Quirky, magical realism etc. Rural Massachusetts is a pleasant setting.

Maribeth is reading Eight Hundred Grapes
Really enjoyed this book. I have strong ties to Northern California, not that far north, but close enough.

I liked how the author built the secrets and family drama into the story. It was messy. Too often you can guess where a story is headed, I thought I had glimpses here. However, not everything was wrapped in a shiny, pink, bow. So, thanks for that.

S'okay, nothing earth-shattering. Then again, I am often overly critical, sorry it's a personality trait...
