First book in some time where the inciting incident happened in the first chapter.

Action prologue with some guy hunting down werewolves in a motel. Good pacing for chapter one. Overweight woman driving home is raped by a werewolf, who she manages to stab in The eye, killing him. Her husband is in the driveway fucking another woman and then has to rush into the house to pick up a phone call from the hospital informing him of the attack.

First time a creature of decent size(4ft) appears and is described clearly, and I had to skim to get here from the last creature appearance several chapters ago because the intervening pages were nothing but banter and rumination by these unlikable characters.

Tim Waggoner - Sorrow Road. All traffic and electricity on the highway suddenly stops, the sky changes color, and myriad eyes appear in it. People vomit black ooze, bugs, bones. People go mad. The cars merge and warp into a massive tower. The trees turn to glass, the grass turns into white blood sucking tentacles. People marked with a cognitohazardous brand bring survivors to the tower for brainwashing.

Time Flies by Pete Rawlik. Protagonist is a CIA agent who's the bodyguard and lover of a Yith. They attend an event on the hotel roof with many other Yith - a viewing party of the devastation wrought by a 9.2 earthquake in the Pacific. Apart from the death and destruction from the tsunamis, the earthquake has breached R'lyeh. On top of this, once the Yith depart, the corpses they'd been possessing will zombify.

Most of the cast has awakened on a boat, so I guess the plot has finally started. It's really boring reading about these people, though.

The descriptions of strange things falling from the sky are interesting, but not the passages about people going crazy. Lots of discussion of motherhood and children, too. Not fond of that.
