Spilling on people, scratching their cars, parking over the line?!?! Delilah sounds inconsiderate and Jackson seems justified in his annoyance.

I read a few spoiler reviews to see if I correctly guessed the reason Katherine broke up with Lucien. I did! And now I’m not very motivated to finish this fairly flat story.

They dated for a few weeks 15 years ago? And both are still hung-up on it? Even though she’s married? Relationships can be intense, I get it, but they both need therapy.

When her family was quarantined on Martha’s Vineyard, I knew they were rich. But I’m finding myself a bit disappointed to learn how wealthy and privileged she is. While I still sympathize with her husband’s extremely cold exit from their marriage, I’m less interested in her personal journey now…

I think the narration might be taking away from this. I feel like I’m missing out on the mood because of the narration style and choices. And the narrator’s voice for the male love interest makes him seem like a whiny jerk (he is, but a more fitting voice could make that a fun grumpy/sunshine dynamic instead of just annoying).

This has been a bit of a slog for me. Feels repetitive and often overwritten. I just don’t find myself invested in the plot or characters. I liked the first well enough, but Vassa feels increasingly cliche and what’s his name is barely present. Reid! That’s it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Vaasa continues to struggle with strategy, despite how often we’re told of her prowess and experience. To expect Roman to risk his life so you can check on your friend (not rescue, not get vital information from, just check on) is so selfish and short sighted.

Interesting, but I’m already getting annoyed at the more modern language (“ginormous” twice in the first 40 pages? 😕) and the over reliance on “fuck” as the ‘male MC needs to express how intense he finds sex with female MC’ word.

Really though… what does she do all day? No wonder she feels rudderless. It doesn’t have to be a career or kids! But most people need to feel like they are making a contribution and have things they are proud of. Girl needs to figure out what that is for her.

Sigh, when I start a Joe Abercrombie book and hear Steven Pacey it’s like a warm hug that I know will turn in to a shit-covered gut punch. But oh how I look forward to all the humor and horror. Please delight and upset me!

I’m finding the names oddly distracting. Rory, Mallow, Bomardi, Toven… Am I being a terribly picky jerk or are these meh choices?
