This book is perfection.

This is a book I want to love but it does all the things that make most modern category romances a slog to get through. Reads like fanfiction, in terms of characters spending far too much time on the page thinking about their own feelings and motivations. I have been skipping whole paragraphs of text because in some places this is so meandering I lose track of dialogue and plot.

This so far is my favorite read of 2026.

This book is not good. It is a pedantic rant and so disappointing.

God this book is a chore.

Why can’t people in their 60s can’t sleep on air mattresses… I know there’s a forced bed sharing scenario being set up but yikes.

So, the romantic hero is estranged from his mother because she was mean… and we are supposed to empathize with this and find him sexy? Estrangement is a form of emotional violence and only justified for the most dire of situations. Sure doesn’t appear justified here and it has ruined this male protagonist.

“I want to have sex but my mom was pretty mean when I was a kid…” is not a complication I foresaw here. 😂 like dude you are 36.

Basically obsessed now.

Really loving this.

Get rid of the Caroline storyline completely. Not even 10 minutes of googling went into the details of this story line, and it is so silly. Removing this entire perspective would have improved this book so much.

This protagonist does things that make no sense. None of this makes sense. If the modern narrative was left completely out of this book it would have been so much better.

This book is so weirdly boring and poorly researched. Was there literally no research done regarding how police in England might go about investigating a potential murder? And the audiobook narration of Caroline is really not great. I was so excited for this one and it is not working for me.
