Karl is on page 70 of 229 of Wilhelm Ropke: Swiss Localist, Global Economist (Library of Modern Thinkers)
Really great complement to Kirzner's volume on Mises. Zmirak repeatedly shows what a "Third Way" in political economy means. Also great overview of the discrimination faced by critics of the Nazi regime in the pre-WW2 years. Thinking about reading one of the volumes on ordoliberalism referenced in the book after this one . . .

Definitely one of the better "self-help" books on the market today. I like how the author maintains a balance between seeing one's 20's as a free-for-all and the all too predominant view that everything has to be plan and put in place. Yes, 20-somethings have more freedom than before, but that freedom should be used to becoming a better person.

Karl is starting In Search of Ancient Roots: The Christian Past and the Evangelical Identity Crisis
I read through Chapter 15 on why younger Evangelicals are leaving Evangelicalism. He constantly refers to older ex-Evangelical Christians rather than people like Gracy Olmstead. His claim about this being a North American is a red herring. There is no recognition of heterodox and heretical movements pushing orthodox believers towards Rome and Constantinople (e.g. New Apostolic Reformation, seeker sensitivity).

Karl is starting Reforming Economics: Calvinist Studies on Methods and Institutions (Toronto Studies in Theology)
Written in a rather strange manner; while a book from, say, AEI, will have several essays with discussions on each by other authors, this book seems to have been written collectively. For a book of its scope, the introduction is found wanting (especially since the book seems to have been published significantly later than the original conference). Should make for interesting reading, though).

Very smooth reading, considering the subject-matter.

Interesting summary. Rather sad that there are few direct quotations in the main text, and that most of the footnotes rarely direct us to de Roover's work on the subject. Nevertheless, there are some interesting ideas in this book.

Decided to read this on my current trip. While I have some qualms about materialism being find as a method for scientific research (25), the rest of her book is insightful and wonderfully written.

Mueller's analysis of the problems in neoclassical economics is top notch. I'm glad he admits that these first few chapters are more schematic (86). Looking forward to the rest of the book.

Starting to jump around rather than read straight through, which you can definitely do with this book. (I love when authors actually write their essays as essays.) If anything, West shows that liberal and left-of-center critiques of the Founding attack strawmen rather than historical realities.

Now on the chapter on neoclassical economics. This revision of the history of economic thought is starting to feel like D'Souza's latest film (Mueller doesn't show any evidence that Auguste Comte read Hume!), but is still an interesting framework.

Not sure why I decided to pick this up again . . . moves too fast in the chapter on religion proper too really spell out his counter-arguments against current views on the nature of religion (views whose popularity are questionable, since all but two views are associated with anyone).

Suggested to me by a friend a few years ago. Renewed interest in it after reading Christopher Tollefsen's article on New Natural Law Theory.
