Halfway through the novel and I'm thoroughly fed up with Strike and Robin's non-relationship drama. Now I remember why I stopped reading these books in the first place. I just can't stand all the drama. I wish they would just get on with the investigation. As well-written as the book is, it is too long and it feels even more so when the main character are constantly at odds with each other.

A well-written book is a well-written book and that's that. I don't remember when was the last time that I actually enjoyed reading something as much as I'm enjoying reading this book, despite the gruesome subject matter. It just feels good to read about Strike and Robin's detective work again. I'm actually sorry now that I've made such a long break between the books.

Giving the reins of the story to someone so completely ignorant about everything was a nice trick to keep the readers in suspense. But did she have to be so awfully dull?

Я її читаю, читаю, читаю, а вона все не закінчується, наче чари хтось наклав... Тільки от незрозуміло на кого: на книгу чи на мене?

Гадала, що маю міцніші нерви, проте навіть не знаю чи зможу дочитати цей роман...

I'm really struggling with this series. I'm not a fan of the Blackthorns. Their self-interest, how self-centered they are, their arrogance and ruthlessness. Julian called them a likable family, but for me they are anything but likable. I mostly keep reading because I like Cristina and Kieran and I get to see my favourite warlock and my favourite Shadowhunters from time to time, so there's that.

Who could have thought that magic or a book about magic could be so utterly depressing? The language is so dull and dead in this book it's literally killing my will to read. This is all such a mess... and here I thought that the TV show was f***ed-up.

Jane Austen always laughed at follies and vulgarity and praised common sense and goodness in her characters. Georgette Heyer appears to be doing the exact opposite. Sensible and serious characters are getting viciously attacked and ridiculed and made to appear unreasonable and their interests and ideas unimportant, while absolutely ridiculous and over-the-top characters are favoured instead. A very unpleasant book.

Вже й не пригадаю скільки разів починала читати цю книгу. Купила її ще тоді коли гадала, що ВСЛ - це моє видавництво. А потім - після однієї невдалої книги за іншою - розчарувалася так що перестала купувати книги цього видавництва. Та ось вирішила дати цій книзі останній шанс. Проте... не можу її читати. Я майже ніколи не кидаю книжки - завжди читаю до кінця. А цю не можу. Нудить мене від неї. Здаюся.
