I've been looking for this book for months. I found it. I bought it. It's now holding up a cabinet that needs repair : /

I knew what I was getting myself into with this book, but I had to stop early because I was planning to eat sausage for dinner/leftovers. This may not be suitable with keto eating : |

This is one of the best things I’ve read in a really long time. Grohl is a fantastic writer and has so many stories to tell.

Listening to audiobook version. This is so tedious that I am considering listening to AM radio for excitement. Frankly, I’m pissed that I’ve invested this much of my time with this without hearing the characters ever wonder why, or explain the how, of the situation that they’re in. They all seem to accept their fate without anger, without rage, without question.

How did I manage to make it this many years old never hearing of Mark Fisher and his amazing social-economic insights?!?! Happy to have bought this one outright.

I like this author, but this story has a few holes that I can't let go of. We've got a teenage girl who doesn't know the word "flirt" but who can listen to monologues about militia and IEDs without a question; she spotted electric light off in the distance but her closest neighbor didn't catch it; she had never heard music but asked Eli if he'd wrote a song on the guitar. Little things, but they're tough to ignore.

Machado writes like I would like to write. One sentence early on really sticks out to me, describing an early lover: “Paul was knock-you-sideways perfect; he fucked you and fed you and tried to teach you to love California."
It's bold, it's crude, it's prosaic.

First impression: King needs to stop writing kid characters. The dialogue between the pre-teens/teens is a little cringey it's so outdated.

Powerful and provocative. Dyson is pure poetry. One of the most elegant writers of our time.

This book is so good that I considered faking the flu, calling into work, and then not leaving my bed until I finished it. Yates is a master storyteller.

It's a little heavy on the weapon description for my tastes, but filled with suspense. I can barely put it down.
