Fabulous. Cruz Smith has lost none of his skill over the years. This is fresh, vibrant and alive. "Harry" is a new anti-hero!

A cliché plot twist that I could see coming pages ago, and on top of boring, useless plot/prose padding.

Much better pacing than previous books, smoother, too.

Craig's had settled down now, and the pacing and prose are fine. A bit more complexity in the plot and characters. Honestly, I find the sweet little romance more fun than the detection. "Studly Do-Right" cute.

Short sentences. Cornball humour. Condescending arrogance. By-the-numbers plot development. Zzzzzzz.

Rough start, poorly edited, limited prose. But it gets better by the 5% mark.

After 3 duds, the next 3 are quite good.

Strange, almost hallucinatory chat between Eve and her mother, but it rings sadly true.

Very good, right from the start

Very hard to keep pushing through this. The sections about the behaviour of Jamie are terrible. It's clear Pronko has no idea how young women think or behave.

First 1/3 Hiroshi is cowardly, pacing uneven.

Second 1/3. The stupidity of Hiroshi and the police is irritating.

Colourful, assured prose. Interesting characterisations, nicely atmospheric

Terrific dialogue during the Albanian's home invasion

Putting cars in crushers a la Goldfinger never works like the movies. For one, the engine block and transmission can't be crushed and have to be removed first.

Cracker Jack Reacher. Child is back on form. A rush of delightful crime noir, with pizzaz and style

Chapter 4 is quiet and wonderful, and full of humanity. Very nice

The exercise with Anthony is pretty predictable, familiar and dull.

I'm so pleased to again be reading a work of Ms Chambers. And already, her amazing heart shines clearly in her prose. It almost brings tears to my eyes, again. Ms Chambers surely has the biggest heart in science fiction today.

Terrific so far, two timelines 1905 and 1922, two mysteries.

Great stuff, good prose and pacing, interesting characters, good humour sprinkled throughout. NOT brutal and gore-filled like his "Prey" series.
