Wanted something that didn't require a lot of brain power, and this was on sale for 5 bucks.

It's fine, but...

This isn't the first time I'm saying this, and I suspect it's hardly the last time I will. One of my Squicky icks is characters that come across as very neurodivergent but get the Sheldon Cooper treatment. Their quirks / social struggles get acknowledged, but there's on page clarification.

I have been frothing for these two since the first book, finally! 😍🙌🔥

Took a long break from this because some of the situations were making me oscillate between antsy and annoyed.

Now I just find it kind of hard to care.
Also, the female narrator isn't really vibing for me - so her chapters in particular are trying.

Plot is also getting a bit repetitive and drawn out. Will likely skim the rest.

The slowly dawning realization that this funk that I've been struggling to evade is in actuality a jack-in-the-box of depression!! 🙃

Suddenly the fact that I'm leaning so heavily into mood reads, and struggling to find joy in my experiences despite my notorious tendency to go into things expectation free - makes sense.

I've also been finding myself wanting to just revisit comfort reads.

So it's beginning to become clear to me that this is going to be a year that's big on re-reads. I've tried so many "frequently mentioned" books in the past few months... it's been a year of solid hits and misses.

A lot more misses than hits if I'm honest.
