Finally, the holy grail!

Looking at the review from my original reading of this in the early 2000’s it’s obvious that my take on the book was influenced by the political climate at the time. Reading the whole first trilogy brought more of it to light but I just watched dune 2 and I’ve got dune fever baby! I’m reading it again!

Before they found a practical use for the balloon, they used to throw cats with parachutes out of them for fun. And science.

So far it’s like reverse avatar where humans are bigger than the aliens mixed with return of the Jedi if han solo has sex with the ewoks and that is exactly what it is like.

If you’re a parent that’s ever thought: will it be ok if I take my eyes off my child for two seconds? It won’t be, you might as well throw your kid to the rats now!

I’m at 100 books for the year and reading more widely than ever, listening to more audiobooks than ever but I’ve gotta say, reading vintage science fiction paperbacks is still my favourite way to get my read on.

I’ve been looking for this in every used bookstore in southern Ontario and finally got a copy. This cover is too insane to exist, I hope the book lives up to it.

I’ve been out of town the last two weekends and had a massive book haul of super cheesy sci-fi paperbacks some look honestly good but I’m looking for that perfect mix of terrible and entertaining.

I’ve read the road, blood meridian and no country for old men. Which McCarthy book do I read next?

People always talk about the bad things that happen to them, how they don’t deserve them. They never talk about what they did to deserve the good things.

The way the author is describing the workings of the computers in 1959 this seems more like historical fiction than science fiction but so far so good.

I’ve been meaning to read more CJ Cherryh for awhile. Trying to figure out what went with what series I just found out that 27 of her books are included in her alliance-union universe. I thought Larry Niven’s known space had a lot to it. I’ll start with this and see where it goes.

During the introduction I was reminded of the book the restaurant at the end of the universe which I just finished this week and in chapter one he started a detailed breaking down of that part of the book😂

Pretty sure this is required reading after moby dick.

At the beginning of the year I challenged myself to read 50 books that I already own (including audio and ebooks) before buying anymore because I was running out of shelf space. I’m at 49 now and one of my favorite sf authors Adrian Tchaikovsky has two new books coming out this week. My main issue is with vintage paperbacks, I cant stay out of thrift stores that sell them cheap. Is that just me?

Saw do a retrospective on Larry Niven’s known space books on YouTube and I’m jonesing to get back into them. Niven isn’t the greatest writer of all time but the imagination and scope of his stories keeps me coming back.

Here we go again. I hope this is as world shatteringly hilarious as I thought it was in high school.

I got the don quixote audiobook and enjoying it when I found a new translation. one is from the 1800’s and is full of flowery prose and that’s humorous in itself . The new one is a straight ahead version which is more understandable but more plain. Now I’m on the fence about which one to continue with. The older one refers to a girl as a buxom country wench which is the kind of thing that makes classics classy

This is my third silverberg book and his history of writing erotic fiction is increasingly evident.
His descriptions of nude female bodies is unique and practiced.

When I read this in high school I saw myself as an alpha plus. On this reread at 45 I have come to the bitter conclusion that I am a gamma. Fuck.

I need to read this and the next one so I can read the citadel of forgotten myths.
