Had to return to the library, so I'll slowly finish this via audio. I really need to say this: I have read SO many rave reviews of this that it seemed necessary to read. I'm finding it very cheesy and trope-y. Sorry if that makes me a cynic?

Had to do an update to say that I tucked into this during silent reading time with my freshmen today. Chapter 15 was so ridiculously hilarious that I couldn't help but burst into a fit of giggles- the kids just slowly side-eyed me dying of laughter at my desk, tears running down my face. I'm going to chalk that up to modeling ideal reading behavior? 🤣🤦‍♀️

3/4 done and I'm unsure how this is really going to wrap up in a handful of chapters?

Ok, I like the Sanderson updates because I feel like this is the point before any potential sanderlanche (AKA the point in which I'm not stopping to write anything), but 6-7 died so I've moved on to 70%.

My earlier update applies- guns AND magic is a wild combo. Also, didn't plan on reading era 2, but I'm patiently waiting for my Emma Lions holds and figured I'd pick this up. I'm glad I did!

Still can't really believe we are on Scadrial... WITH GUNS?! A wild jump in timelines and tech advancement for era 2 of Mistborn

Despite the Great Meme Reset of 2026, I'm here with ny 67% check-in!
It took me WAY too long to get into this book after the holiday season. What can I say? Book 2 played it safe and was slow. This one? Sanderson is pulling out all the stops. And also, we are at the point where everything and nothing seems to be happening. I know it's all going to collide in an epic conclusion and am on the edge of ny seat.

Here I am for my 6-7 (%) check-in! Some thoughts:

1. It has been a while since I've read a series and it's hard to leave updates or reviews that aren't spoilers!

2. It is also hard to truck through longer novels with a sick toddler and little sleep !

3. This book remains a slow burn but I do detect a Sanderlanche in the near future 👀

Listen, I'm not complaining but this has been a slow start! Lots of catching the reader up with reminders from book 1 (not needed when you binge read) and just random stuff happening that I'm *sure* will all collide any second here.

Thought I'd check in here because I happened to pause it at 6-7% 🤷‍♀️

But FR this is fun.

Love the dual timelines (and hoping my prediction about how they meet up is correct), finding the writing to be relatively dull. Sooo sad about it, I usually really enjoy TJR

I'm WAY too far into this to DNF, but I'm not sure I like this story. I have a feeling this last quarter holds some great twist or connection that seals the deal for readers.. we will see!

Just here to report that 2 of the 3 storylines intersect at 33% and all 3 come together at 35%. Moral of the story? You have to commit to the first third to get through background.

So.. when do these stories collide?

Easily the geekiest- AND most hilarious- book I've read this year.

Is this book actually good? Can't really tell... feels like a red flag at 230 pages in.

My bookclub is an after-hours bookstore crew of many 65+ women and maybe 2 of us under the age of 35. I LOVE them. I adore them! I learn so much from them. But mannnn, they do not know how to pick books for the seasonal vibes! Last July, the choice was "Wuthering Heights." This July? Frozen River. Could you get more wintery and gothic?

Waaiiiiit this book is SO good! Im like 3/4 done with both books I'm reading and cant decide which one to finish first. Such a good (and rare?) problem to have.

This isn't a "fun summer read," but I'm working through my bookshelves this summer and this was the next one up. Here's the game changer- the audiobook is TOM HANKS! hahaha no one told me this. Imagine my surprise when the narrator suddenly became NY152 from You've Got Mail. I honestly do no know if I'd be engrossed in this had I not started it via audio.

I just... I've had other things to read and don't have time for the randomness that is this book rn. Thankfully I'm on renewal #3 of the audiobook and am determined to get this off of my "currently reading" shelf before I turn 30 😅

Hot take, but I'm bored. Hoping this is just a looooong warm up?

It's a slow cook, but I'm enjoying it. It's different enough from what I've read and have been reading lately that I'm interested. Also, 60% of the way in and I honestly do nooooot know where this is going.

And surprise! A third book in the works for this month. Feeling like I probably shouldn't be reading this at the same time as "Six of Crows" but the audio was available after months of being on hold so here we go! Obviously, tons of worldbuilding going on so.. it's been a good and fast read thus far
