where's the police in all this. how can you find a missing child and have no police involved. how can the social workers not know she has been missing for 22 years and should have been a grown woman.

starting my re-read for the book club and realising I don't remember shit BUT I should give myself more grace because it's been almost 20 years.

at 17% I already hate the husband and don't trust him a bit. I can FEEL the main character is gonna be dumb about him.

it's gonna be a soft DNF at 40% of this mammoth of a book because I'm feeling very slumpy right now and if I insist on what is essentially a textbook I few like I'll never get any reading done again. it is very interesting though, but I feel like that's enough learning about medieval Europe for now.

I have a bit of stockholm syndrome with riley sager because I hate 90% of the books by him I read but every now and then I pick up another one and say "this one might be different..."

this book has been on my tbr since it came out 10 years ago. maybe 10 years ago me would have enjoyed it, but today me just thinks it's a more simple and way less funny Andy Weir book. DNFing it @ 48%.

DNF @ 45%. how you're gonna name your kid Isr*el and be surprised he becomes a serial killer.

DNF at 33%. this was going to be a 3 stars at best.

DNF at 32%. this is so boring and I don't care for any character.

how I missed kaladin's dramatics and his unbreakable plot armour. no one has ever main chraractered like this guy (this is both affectionately and derogatorily).

all people who go caving have a death wish and you won't convince me otherwise.

feeling dumb as fuck after realising why is it called the return of the king only when aragorn arrives at gondor 😭 lmao. also one of my huge issues with this trilogy it's how important things happen offscreen and we're told about it after (like aragorn and the army of the dead) while we spend ages in other useless shit. sure let's hear another song instead of seeing this important plot point.

unfortunately I think I already solved it. I hope I'm wrong but I read too many thrillers to not know the formula :')

this one is so boring oh my god

all of simone st. james's books have a hint of melancholy in the plot but I think this one is the saddest I've read. it gives haunting of the hill house (the TV show version) vibes. the scary factor isn't that big until now but reading about the ghost of a little boy playing hide and seek is a bit creepy.

doing this one on audio for a change and I did not expect andy serkins to start full on singing. like I said many times, LOTR had peter jackson when it actually needed tom hooper.

20% in my re-read having read many fantasy books after the first time I read this and thinking how many of them were inspired by LOTR at least a little bit. a primer and "how to" that's still being used after all this time, crazy.

re-reading after 17 years so I can finally read the rest of the trilogy. I literally have no memory of any of this so yay!

DNFing at 17%. this reads so much like YA I just can't. been there, done that.

everytime I read a Miss Marple/Poirot novel set in the 60s it feels so out of place... this isn't right, they belong with the old country and butlers and old manors not with hippies and television in colours wtf.

DNF at 41%. this was supposed to be a thriller but at almost halfway nothing has happened, I'm not interested in the slightest in this family and this is putting me in a book slump.
