I was excited that John Carter was back but his story has been hijacked by this loser. He completely derails the mission but at least John Carter was smart enough to leave this guy behind so John could save Dejah.

This one is moving really slow. If nothing happens in the next 10% I am done with it. The main character is annoying and her boyfriend is sleazy.

Well, some of this is really sad. I get there are some depressing aspects to the story but this is worse than the original. Still good but maybe have some tissue when you read it.

Reusing names from previous characters? That's not confusing at all...

A little clever Harry Potter reference slipped in there.

An interesting return to Sherlock Holmes where it seems that Watson's wife has disappeared somehow and Watson is now a full time minion for Holmes. Which I don't have an issue with, although I would have preferred an explanation about the disappearing wife....

Wow, go Abbess Blue. As much as I want to like Fern, it was satisfying to see her put in her place after being pretty rude to some monks about their religion in their own monastery.

I find that I am pretty disappointed in Fern's character in this one. I was so excited to see Fern back from the prequel and this is what we get. She's whiny, ungrateful and kind of a bad friend. I don't like midlife crisis Fern, she's a real drag. I do like Nigel and Astryx though.

FERN!!! I am so glad that this book is about Fern. I really enjoyed the prequel that had her in it and I have been looking forward to a book solely about her.

But murder, assassination and kidnapping are where it's at apparently for the no good Martian criminal.

I did not read this one as a kid but I am thinking that references to The Scarlet Letter and calling other characters "hussies" maybe isn't the greatest thing for a kids book?

There is way too much foot stomping in this book... And temper tantrums.

Glynis is somewhat unlikable at first. She is snobby, immature and extremely spoiled. She also reads really young for supposedly being 19 years old. At first I thought she was supposed to be much younger than that based off her voice in the first few chapters.

I'm hoping that Frey, the captain of the ship becomes a better character further along in the book. Right now, he's not that likable as a main character.

Starting right out of the gate (page 3) with the main character, Tan, admitting that he was going to abduct a woman just because he wanted her but luckily he found another way. This is our hero in this book. Sometimes I am not too sure about these books...

I don't like that Naomi basically tells Holden that she doesn't trust him before jetting off to take care of a personal problem that she never even told him about. It seems really disrespectful to the person she "loves" that she doesn't even trust him enough to know the truth. I am trying to keep an open mind but as of right now, I don't like Naomi that much.

I feel like the old fairytale is full of too much modern language and it seems to pull me out of the story. The asides and notes from Goldman are also a little bit disrupting. Only a few of them are even funny, so it's a distraction from the story itself that's not worth reading.

YES! I'm so happy to see the walking stick back! I was bummed when it "died" and was hoping it would find a way to come back to life.

I find myself struggling to be interested in the plot for this one. And I am again not a fan of most of the characters. Can we just have Bobbie Draper back please?

I liked hearing about some of Alex's back story. We are getting very little back story for the supporting characters so hearing some more about the Martian pilot is nice. I am hoping that we get a little more back story at some time about Naomi.

I am glad that the story finally picked up, I was worried that it was going to be as slow as the first 30% the whole book.

I am equally annoyed with Holden as Naomi. He's way too quick to jump to conclusions and start pointing fingers. There are lots of explanations for why there would be protomolecule on Ganymede, like Protgen lied about only having that one place they were experimenting with it. That's more likely than Fred Johnson using it. Holden needs to calm down...

The book that keeps the hits coming, Finbarr did not win in this book all the way until the end. So so sad...

There are so many sad parts of this book. Reading it, you think "OK, there can't possibly be anything else horrible happening to these people". Then you get hit with even more awful things. This last one brought me to tears. Hopefully there is some happy ending for anyone in this book.

Oooh a dragon! I was getting bored with this series but if there are going to be more vampires and a dragon, I am suddenly more interested...

So far I am interested in the story but I find some of it to be a bit too juvenile for me. I find Braden constantly calling the other characters nicknames to be a little bit annoying. I also feel like Braden acts a little bit too young and naive for his 20 years.

Book 2 and we are already recycling plot points from book 1. If there is an ongoing theme of Dresden getting arrested by his supposed partner every single book, that is going to get annoying. Murphy never even lets Dresden try to explain anything and then it turns out that she's wrong about everything. Why does he work with this lady?

Leave it to Hastings to question Poirot's methods, even after being proven wrong again and again. I understand that Hastings is needed to move the story forward, but he is such an idiot...
