Oh no. I've been flying through this book, but it just took the absolute stupidest turn. So much so that if it doesn't work it out, I might not bother with the sequel, esp since there's no telling when the series will be finished.

Having some trouble staying with it. It's not that I dislike the book, per se. It's just that I realized there were 4 instead of 3 books in the series, and I lost some steam. I don't know if I trust this storyline to be robust enough to carry me through another 2.5 books.

This currently feels like a bit of a slog. I'm not sure if it's me having trouble sitting still to read a digital book (vs listening to an audiobook while doing other things) OR if the book is actually in a dull spot.

I reallllly hate the way the narrator renders Raina's sign language voice. It's halting and stilted, as if she's recently learned to sign. But her signing should be expressive, smooth, and natural since it's been her primary form of communication for pretty much her whole life.

Our heroine, Elle, is no Elizabeth Bennet, that's for sure. She's annoying me significantly.

The number of 1 and 2 star reviews is scaring me, but I got this book for a few bucks at the used library bookstore, lured by the gorgeous cover. I suppose we shall see how the content lives up to the cover and all the hater reviews...

I'm nearly 4 hours into the audiobook, and it is sooo slow. Fireborne is so popular that I had to wait 19 weeks for it to be available at my library, and so far, I don't get what the fuss is about. I might even DNF it if something doesn't start happening soon.

Re-reading this in audiobook format. This is definitely the kind of book that it's really beneficial to read twice.

I feel like a philistine because I'm nearly halfway through, and I'm not loving it. I'm still teetering on the edge and may still DNF. The disjointed narrative structure and all the (trigger warning) pedophilia are both not my favorite. Everyone says this is such an incredible book, so I keep hanging in there.

So far, this anthology is a letdown despite what the badass cover art would have you believe. I recently read the anthology Winter Spirits (spooky winter ghost stories), and I enjoyed it more than I'm enjoying this collection. But I'll keep giving this a chance for a while longer.

I'm about an hour in, and I'm thinking about DNF'ing. I am obsessed with the author's novel In Other Lands, so I'm wondering if the audiobook narrator is what's so off-putting. I'm perplexed as to why she's doing a cringe American accent for the main character. Is the antiheroine's American-ness crucial to the plot? Then why not cast someone with an American accent? Or at least someone better at faking it.

I actually have no idea why I put this audiobook on hold at my library. The description doesn't sound that compelling to me, so I must've come across an intriguing review. Based on what I've read so far, I'm guessing it probably has some coziness, which I'm big into these days.

Wow, I think I might be obsessed with this book. It's my go-to comfort audiobook. This is my 4th time listening to it, and I'm getting to the point where I can anticipate and quote the lines with the narrator. Plus, it's still making me laugh. I'm on a mission to get as many people to listen to it as possible (the narrator is clutch).

I think I was seduced by the cover art. It was giving glorious 80's camp, so I expected some tongue-in-cheek humor with sly nods to horror tropes of the 80's. I wanted scary and funny. So far, it's neither. It has good ratings, though, so I'm going to stick it out a bit longer.

This book is a bit of a grim slog. It was billed as a scary book that's good to read around Halloween. I'm about 4.5 hrs in, and I've encountered nothing scary. Just a slow burn about bereft guy going to his small island hometown to investigate a murder. Those stories are a dime a dozen.

About 40 mins in and have already been having some iffy vibes. The author characterizes Franklin's father as an "adulterer" when, in fact, he impregnated a 12 year old girl. There are other, more accurate terms to describe this behavior. The author also refers A LOT to Franklin's own memoir, so I'm wondering why I'm reading a book report on her memoir instead of the actual memoir?
