This radio segment of Blast's made me laugh out loud and then play it for my boyfriend who laughed just as hard.

I can almost phrase for phrase pull out the Satanic Bible quotes and philosophy in this part of the book. I wonder if Hendrix was inspired by Euronymous/Varg.

Those BASTARDS

I don't recognize the metalheads in this book -- the angry, the rude, the Satanic. They're not my experience with metal, but my experience with metal really started in my late 30s, and the concerts I've gone to have mostly been of the "more mainstream" with a small venue played by Jinjer, so maybe it's me that's more disconnected from this kind of metal culture.

I hate when an author tries to be clever and fails, and that's what listening to this feels like, only with humor. So far, it's a lukewarm Christopher Moore book.

I'm trying to get through this, despite having looked up spoilers, because it's a library book I've checked out. I can't keep character names straight and I keep forgetting Whodunnit. It's solid enough writing, but it feels more like a chore read than pleasure.

Started this as a simple migraine listen, that idea didn't last long. I'll give it another chance when I'm in a better mood.

Unable to help myself, I found a synopsis of the book and now I have all the spoilers I needed. Still going to finish it, because I'm at 60%

Both books in this story are compelling, despite all of the horror tropes being obvious -- almost like a chocolate chip cookie, you recognize the different elements of every other cookie like it, but you can also tell that the cook was a good one. Almost halfway through this cookie, and it's still good.

Chapter three: good, solid introduction to three new characters and a closing to a few others, the pace of the book continues to be well written -- which should be expected from a NYTBS author, but isn't always the case. Right now, I'm thinking that the story is going to turn out to be less supernatural and more realistic who-done-it than the author is trying to get the audience to believe in the end.

Okay, THAT chapter ended on a legit cliffhanger. I'm now on chapter three (just about to start it) and I already want to go to the end of the book and see how it ends and who survives. Apparently, the writing still is strong enough to keep me engaged.

Dislikable mother and dead father, not as many grown kids as in The Haunting of Hill House, but it's still giving me those kinds of vibes. While chapters don't end on a cliffhanger, the storytelling is solid enough to make me want to hear more.

Strong opening with a solid hook, making me curious about hearing more.

I think it's utterly charming and impressive how she weaves traditional stories with Indigenous history and modern science. She opens the book saying that she's going to do that, which sounds like a mess waiting to happen, but it's really not. It's ...well braided together.

Poorly edited and full of fat-shaming. Not worth my time and attention.

25% rule - if I'm questioning whether or not I want to continue the book at this point, I stop reading it. It just isn't worth the time investment.

So far, the writing is mediocre, the plot non-existent, and the themes are sure to piss off most women in my generation, being as it's about the structured breeding of teh womens.

First chapter down, seems like a quick, easy read that's along the style-lines of RED - upbeat, fun violence.

Still having a hard time figuring out just *what* kind of book this is. Whatever it is, it's fun, interesting, and very very different.

This is an interesting book. Not quite noir (which was what I was expecting,) and not quite urban fantasy. Not quite historical fiction/urban fantasy. More along the lines of a conglomeration of all of the above. It's ... interesting.

So, 30 Rock might be "weirdly funny" instead of "Seinfield funny" because of the director. This book *is* humerous, but in a "I'm just not in to you" kind of way.

oh hateful short story, that inspires me to want to write and reminds me that I haven't written in far too long.
