Figured that out way too early for a reveal this late in the game.

DNFing. Too gory for me right now and the setting/world-building doesn’t make sense to me. The writing is otherwise strong.

The last three or four books I’ve attempted to read I’ve DNF’d around a quarter of the way through and I just want to finish *something* at this point.

The world-building is flimsy af, but the writing pulls me in. Half of me wants to DNF, the other wants to keep going.

Thinking about DNFing this one. It’s not bad and it holds my interest while I’m reading, but I don’t miss it when I’m away from it.

I feel like I’ve read better versions of this story.

The writing is decent but the Cel are so obviously based on the Roman Empire it’s a bit distracting. Other territories are also poor references to real world cultures and places. And if I have to deal with more of this “s/he is the most beautiful/handsome person ever” I’m going to hurt my eyes from how hard they’re rolling.

That is to say, the fixation feels icky. Not that there are only a few white people.

jensen is weirdly fixated on the reader understanding that white people are the minority in this series. Which, from a white author, feels a bit icky to me.

This author has been hit-or-miss for me so I’m not holding my breath with this book. It started out strongly but I’m already feeling a deep sigh coming over me at the FMC’s actions.

Well, I’m not reading this before bed anymore!

The writing is smooth, the plot is intriguing, and the cast of characters has something for everyone. The world-building is a bit weak, and the author has a penchant for describing characters’ wrist movements.

DNFing. I had such hopes for this one, but I can’t find anything in it to keep me interested or that makes me care.

Idk why the page count says I’m at 100% when I’m still in chapter 23 but whatever. I’m biting at the chomp to get to Wentworth’s letter. If I had less self-control I’d just skip to it, lmao.
