I loved Goldfinch so we shall see about this one.

Due back at the library. I may, or may not, come back to it. There are so many good points about this book and character, yet it is too fractured or in bits and pieces for me to enjoy it.

Probably the saddest, tragedy-ridden book I've ever read. Not sure how long I will keep reading. However, so well written. Outstanding author.

Not sure what to think. It seems that the author has fractured the main character into a million little pieces that the reader needs to piece together.

Okay. It's getting good and the foreshadowing is minimal but expressed through an alien's written records. As a testament to great writing, it is just enough to entice the reader to continue.

It was really hard to get caught up in this book. The first 50+ pages were almost bland and it was hard to develop any liking of the main character. Fortunately, it has gotten much better.

Have read the first short story and must say that this book will take a while due to size. I'm looking forward to it!

Yes, this is book 1 of a series and yes, I dislike series but maybe it will end well. Only on page 17 and I already dislike the main character.

One of my favorite historical fiction writers for depth of character and accuracy of the times but this newest title lacks the richness of her previous work. A tad disappointed. Am wondering about the possible use of a ghost writer?

I'm DNFing this book. The writing is simplistic with minimal sentences, too much foreshadowing that is almost nonstop, and lacks a richness that one would hope for. In all fairness, I am also reading Red Rising with its powerful story and exemplary writing so maybe the difference is more striking to me.

Why reread a book? Sometimes one feels the need to just curl up somewhere and read a book that is familiar yet exciting all at the same time. I can't help but compare the writing to this novel to some of the newer books that are out. Fantastic setting, heart-rending events, and complex yet competent paragraph and sentence structure.

New library hold. I like that you can put in a request for a book months before publication and release. This will be an ebook reading.

An impressive and unique story but may not be for everyone.

What an absolute delight of a book! Plus, the gentle introduction of simple math games and ideas is a great way to show the personalities of the characters.

This is a BIG step back to my long ago past of discovering Sci-Fi and despite it's age, it's still good.
