Just enjoying this a little at a time. Some work for me today, others another day. I suspect I could come back in six months and discover more from the ones I just gave a nod before. I do think maturity or stage of life will guide these.

Very readable. Blew through the first bit way too fast. Need to redo them and then go on.

At start of scene 4. First reading is great fun. Quick, sharp dialogue that comes at you from all different angles. Everything counts. Pay attention.

Lots of afterward collection. Not sure about the why of it. Seems like a retelling of previous story. Reads well, but like the rest very slow.

Not much progress page wise, but story wise it was quite engaging. Seems he crashed his sea plane on take-off. Bad scene, woke him up about life though. Tough learning event.

While this is a slow burn, it's continues to move forward at a steady pace. Similarities to real world abound and I think weren't coincidental. Even the small phrases that pop up in the text point the reader to an additional meaning. May reread the intro material to see if was believed to be intentional. Interesting character this Knecht.

About to wrap this one up. Lots of fun reading it. The last bit has to do with consciousness. Pretty interesting and new material for me. Also scary. Can you "mathify"( my word invention here) consciousness? Can they build a conscious invention then?

Probably to soon to tell, but I think he's had it with rhetoric of the powers that be. This so far could be the commentary in nearly every age from the beginning onward.

Starts great. He's the guy you saw in stage, but without his airplane. A good read so far.

Fascinating history presented that explores ideas and observations made from long ago up to the very recent. Reading how ideas became agreed upon facts reveals some of the ability on human reasoning, intuition, and just plain common sense. Or lack of it in some cases. This books stretches the reader, or does me anyway, and that's a good thing. Whether the reader agrees or not it's still good exercise.

Photon act like electrons? Does that mean light and electric do too? I'm sure we'll get to that soon or I already missed it?

I feel.like he's writing about more than his experiences. Some seem common...to me too. Poetry touching me. A new thing for me.

Still interesting stuff. Currently the discoveries over time that things have parts, tiny parts. Bunches of them. And the old guys from way, way back guessed as much, but weren't able to take the pictures of them. Mainly a history lesson, but a well told one.

So far I'm enjoying the read. Some history to help me jump into the issue. Easy to read, but not an action novel. Pace is a out right for me. Now, anyway. Lots more to go.

This book is like 40 years old and reads like it was written yesterday. Characters are quirky, but soon you recognize them as folks you really know. Events too. Good stuff. And its a re-read for me from probably back in the late 80s. Didn't realize how well done it is back then. This aged well.

A re-read from 1985 or there about. Don't remember much of it, so it's nearly a new read for me. Interesting characters most of whom are a bit quirky in Interesting ways that become nearly normal as you read along. Could be written today and work as well.

Didn't know a sitar could do that, or that accidently sitting on ghost was so uncomfortable, or that Oklahoma wasn't the only OK. Good reading. Just into the last of the five stories now and hoping for a grand finale.

Hoping to find a reason to read more of Rushdie's work from this one. Tried years ago and failed. Maybe I've aged enough by now to appreciate his books.
Read through the first story. It's not about the American south 1950s era. That's a win right off. The character conflict is almost funny. Almost. Didn't see the ending coming but somehow it worked. That's why he's called an author and I'm not.

Liking this. Mostly. Still in scenes scattered across time, a few of which had some rather graphic descriptions of the action taking place. Currently in the recent present with the women cutting each others' hair and just sharing a good time together. Then the sun set allowing the shadows to swallow them. So much for the gaiety just a few lines before. Good work from the author to move so smoothly between moods.

Not sure what I think yet. Each chapter or essay or story-whatever it's official nomenclature might be- is different. The progression is faintly linear so far. Memories either real or imagined, present action dreams, hintermingled, dreams. Well written. Some of it reminds me of Annie Dillard's Pilgrim at Tinker Creek in tone.

Yes, another how to write book. And one I find more encouraging than the others I've read. His opening chapters cover the freedom a writer has and avoids all the rules. Sort of sit down and relax, find out who you are and what you want before you start the greatest work ever written or whatever.

Pretty strange story so far. Shades of the book, Heart of Darkness, that even I can recognize and I've not read that myself. I'd probably put this down except it's short enough I can pr
endure the rest of it. Readable, but not pleasant at all for some reason.

Just finished a chapter that really sums up the historical existence of man as want. And the author makes that stick. Lots of dreamy chapters though too. Quite a read so far.
