Reading to my girl

‘A tree is a memory keeper. Tangled beneath our roots, hidden inside our trunks, are the sinews of history, the ruins of wars nobody came to win, the bones of the missing.’

It was hard getting into it but I am finally moving along. I do like how much Lithuanian history and traditions there are mentioned and that I’m being reminded of.

‘Nearly 1 in 5 prison and jail inmates has a serious mental illness in the United States. In fact, there are more than 3 times the number of seriously mentally ill individuals in jail or prison than in hospitals, in some states that number is 10 times.’

Time for some Lithuanian classics reread

Going back to my TBR, just not feeling it at the moment

How true is this statement? I’m just a few pages in and already loving this book.

Without an object. And even though I couldn’t do anything to help her, I felt in some way responsible for her sadness. As if I where to blame for my mothers remembering.’

‘An instant can stay with us our entire lives, relived in words a thousand times over like a punishment.’

‘The abyss calls to you. Sometimes you don’t even feel it’s pull. There are those who are drawn to it like magnet. Who peer over the edge and feel a desire to jump. I am one of those people.’

Slow burning….
