I’m barely reading at this point.

The writing style is more YA than adult, and the repetition of details is getting on my nerves. It’s just telling, not showing, over and over and over.

What the heck happened to Phoebe? Just when I think I’m following the writing style, I get lost again.

I’ve kind of lost interest and am skimming and skipping parts. There are several details bothering me.

Just introduced a 4th pov. Why do so many books do this now???

I devoured the first 18% last night. This is how you suck someone into a book!

I’ve said it so many times, but I’m going to state it again: the penchant for modern fiction writers to incessantly repeating details is driving me mad. I know attention spans are suffering, but this is asinine. And it’s in books written in the last few years—since the purveyance of generative AI.

Okay, where is the chase, and how do I cut to it???

And this is what I didn’t like about The Poppy Fields: too many perspectives switching to quickly and frequently so you never really get any depth with any character.

Please let this end as well as it’s going so far.

This is becoming a slog. And it’s not always necessary to tell a story from multiple perspectives. It’s all third person limited omniscience to whoever the chapter is about, and maybe this is why I’m not connecting to anyone. I’m just “watching” them.
