Our protagonist, Shanice, has way too much going on in the drama section. I think the author went a bit overboard. By doing so, it's distracting and irritating. Wanting the story to move forward but weighed down by too many drama feeds. It's literally like 9 threads I'm trying to keep up with, and I don't even like Shanice yet. Hopefully, I will before story over...

Unfortunately, the thing with audiobooks is great narrators just make a good "read" that much better. The case here is so good!

A bad narrator can make a great book into a not so great audiobook. Not the case here. But it has happened, and I have to shut it down and read myself.

Great narrators can also make a so-so book into a semi good audiobook experience. Audiobooks are all about the narration! Awesome here!

I'm semi enjoying the audiobook so far, but for one thing. The honey bee behavior references, honey bee lore, etc. I'm not even a third of the way through, and there has to have been 15 or more... we shall see.

The book is so slow that it's literally frustrating the hell out of me. Maybe I should have read instead of listening to audiobook even though it's done well.

I will give this book one thing, it's very sad, even at the very beginning. Tobias has done his daughter a disservice by not taking her security and safety more seriously. I hope that changes later on in the book. It also makes me think how pathetic people can be as adults. Adults young and old show up at their house asking about treasure. Pathetic! Even after the dad said no treasure on TV.

Damn my best friend! I am not a romance book reader! I like horror, thrillers, creepy science fiction, coming of age reads, obscure/random literature reads. As well as rare occurrences that tickle my reading fancy after reading blurb for whatever reason.

Sometimes those obsecure/random/BFF directed/whatever reason reads/listens don't work out, but other times they are a diamond in the rough, so to say. Here goes...

This is the longest book ever...way too many flashbacks. The story could have been told even better IMHO with about 35% less of the overdone life story of the main female character. It's a good read. Don't get me wrong, but a 15-hour audiobook that could have been done in 10 hours for sure is almost too much.

So far, so good. I was dumbfounded when an unexpected tragedy occurred. I'm still not sure how I feel about it and if it's going to ruin the book for me now. I've sat it down for a moment to clear my head and regroup. I know the story is worth finishing, but at the moment, I'm frustrated and find myself distracted. Distracted reading means I'm not comprehending or retaining anything, and that will handicap me later.

So, Im just getting started on this audiobook via Audible. I kept wondering why the narrator sounded so off. Like pronouncing the basic word lumbar wrong, no dips or highs in voice (inflection?), etc. That's when I realized virtual voice was used for narration. I HATE virtual voice narration! Audible seems dead set on flooding its virtual shelves with the stuff. I've found myself looking elsewhere for audiobooks now

Halfway thru and struggling! This whole find your other life, learn to control your center, keeping secrets and everyone out to get death is getting old. It's back and forth, who knows what, poor me, etc.

I'm so freaking sick of Nikki!!! This type book should not have so much freaking supposed BFF drama. I freaking hate Nikki and would drop kick her if she were real. If she's lying to Mel about what supposedly went down I may have to invent a character to paste on a punching bag my son's use. Nikki is fast making this book a 2 star because readers should be focused on Gabe and Melanie not freaking Nikki.

This audiobook, I swear! Cat is killing me! Unless she gets a backbone soon, whether for herself, Emily or both, I don't see this book picking up anytime soon. I'm growing increasingly frustrated and losing interest as it seems like a Groundhog Day story only with a Gothic like twist. Characters aren't growing, moving forward, working towards something, nothing!

I highly recommend listening to the audiobook version of this debut novel. The narrator, Karole Foreman, has a gift for bringing forth the spiritual and otherworldly off of paper and into the ears of any listener. In another book she narrated, Unapoken Words by Latoya Chandler, she provided voice for multiple characters, male and female... superior performance!

I'm a huge fan of JM, but I do have one pet peeve when it comes to his writing style. Perfect example in Chap 33, an attack on Reclamation Group outside of large concrete structure. JM went through multiple paragraphs/two chapters for one fight scene. The fight scene is minor in terms of the overall story. But it just kept going like a major showdown, like often at the end of a story. JM drags on and on at times.

How can some one weak in life continue to be weak in death when they have nothing holding them back? I understand a character being submissive in life to a budding psychopath who wouldn't be? But to still be submissive in death, when your just that dead, what more do you have to lose? I'm ready to give up at end of book because I'm tired of weak submissive character still being weak. Only way out is to man up!

Why are books like this so full of filler? The book is good but it could have done without so much that didn't make it any better.

Spoiler Alert....Chrissie is a toddler vs a teenage and Rebecca is teenager versus an adult. I pray this isn't a reflection of the Authors personal life. If so my deepest sympathy as this is a nightmare

If I could literally reach through the pages of a book and choke a character I swear I would at this very moment. I know this is a YA Book... but...this book is definitely a hard read for anyone who may have maternal feelings toward a child or is a parent. For one mother to promise another mother the safeguarding of her child and then abandoning said child....Death is to good...

Bit over the top, maybe lol

A lot of raw emotional characters and some horrific violence aka domestic abuse. Two boys witness the worst thing possible and the mother knows it. She wishes she could remove that imprint in their brains and memories but knows its too late after the fact.

Not much happening in the way of supernatural occurrences so far. Hannah's daily in and outs getting a bit long winded and Wyatt flashbacks starting to get repetitive. He says I was young and dumb when together Hannah professes her love for him back then. These two not on same page. Won't even get started on the dead in the dirt, subject of Ellie. She already knows Huck is wrong for her but keeps contemplating, Ugh!

It takes me so long to get through books like this sometimes. I get angry, sad, irritated.... Sometimes I cry, scream or yell. Or I write in a notebook as I have no one to yell to. I threw my phone one time and a few minutes later was thankful it didn't break. SMH
