My reading challenge is hallucinating an extra book. WTF?

There is so much repetition that I can feel at least a dozen wordss lose their meaning and become noise.

He misses his wife and kids so, so much, you guys. You can tell because he literally never says their names, describes them, recalls events with them in it...

If I was this dude's wife I would be reading a heck of a lot of resentment/"you're my bangmaid' in this.

This really isn't anything like I expected.

This feels a lot like Forgotten Beasts of Eld, which I never expected.

Yet another trigger discipline warning. Someone is 100% being shot to death and its looking more and more like Sonya and/or Murphy.

Literal Skybeam now. This is just Avengers Endgame in the Dresden universe, but with a completelly flat, undeveloped villain.

This is also just one fight after another. It is going from exciting to exhausting, from riveting to repeatative, very quickly. I don't see how you can effectively sustain this for hundreds of pages, particularly when we have been told there will be a lot of little fights before resolution.

That's a very handwavey way to get Murphy back in action. Chances of killing her off are ticking upwards.

We've had multiple instances of people being criticized for poor trigger discipline, enough that we can be certain someone's gonna be shot.

I think I see why Brief Cases was released, otherwise a lot of these dude characters showing up would be confusing.

This simultaneously is moving very fast and very slow.

Anyone else get the email that GoodReads is phasing out the messaging system entirely? What a bizzarre choice.

Something that sticks out to me is how passive the MC is. She doesn't survive a single trial through her own initiative. I get that she is a prisoner with limited agency, but other prisoners are more active in addressing her situation than she is, so that argument doesn't hold water.

So we have a throwaway line at the beginning that one of the heirs to the throne disappeared (and was female). We have a throwaway line from FMC to a princess saying, "Well unless I'm your long lost sister I don't have magic..." and we have one mystical trial left that can only be survived with magic. Taking bets on this being when her magic kicks in and the orphan is revealed as secret royalty.

How is a career healer so bad at identifying clear cases of poisoning?
