الكتاب خفيف و جميل. فصصه جاذبة

رغم أنني لا أعرف شكل وسط البلد في تلك الفترة, أﻻ أن الكاتب استطاع أن ينقل الصور و الأحداث بشكل جيد. من الجميل أن الكثير من اﻷماكن المذكورة ما زالت موجودة, مما يسمح بمقارنة الماضي بالحاضر و كم تعلمنا منه

We get to the point where actual experienced traders don't know what's going on anymore. A point where the largest firms are hemorrhaging money even when they're doing it right! No one understands how the market works, not even the "analysts" or advisers. The just push buttons and that's it. This is an entire economy we're talking about! This is not something from history, it's happening now, today

When actual human beings decided to let computers do their job, to sell and buy numbers... markets crashed and financial problems ensued. I'm a very technological man, but it's unacceptable to let an algorithm decide where our money goes... then that algorithm collides with something it doesn't understand, and you get our current financial crisis

Right from the beginning I'm not liking this book, which surprisingly enough came highly recommended by two married friends who recently became parents. It sings the praise of vicious capitalism, trivializes the educated and working class, and makes everything seems easy if want to be rich. If you're poor, it's your fault, or at least the educational system's fault! But I'll read it through before writing my review.

It's a light book in line with the usual Chomsky we know. When I first started reading I was a bit lost, because the sections didn't seem to be related, until I read the back; "conversations"! Then it made sense! One asks, Chomsky answers.

It's been a long time since I've last updated Goodreads, but it doesn't mean I've stopped reading =]

There will always be new innovations, and there will always be people who will block them (or try their hardest). But creative destruction must happen

It's clear by now that even the mightiest of nations will fall if tyranny & corruption find their ways in. Not even a nation like the Romans or the Greek. Life's law is very clear: prosperity is constant work. It's not "given", nor is anyone entitled to it. No one is immune. The minute corruption sets, that's the minute we collapse

Now in the "plague" chapter. It seems in line with the theory that we need a nuclear explosion in the Middle East big enough, maybe most of the population will die and the rest starts fresh with the lesson learned!

We've got to the heart of the problem now. Why doesn't the ruling elite want to change, why not make a country better if they can? Interests. Having a better country necessarily means less privileges and wealth for them

So far a great book. I like the writing style and the thinking process

يبدو أنني سأتركها, و لن أكمل القراءة
الرواية غير منطقية, و تكرر نفسها و لغتها رتيبة. ألفاظها عادية, و مشهدها في بلاد أغلب الظن أن الكاتب لم يعرفها إلا بالسمع و بعض القراءة

نور الله هذا إنسان عجيب! منذ فصل فقط كان يشرب الفودكا بكل أريحية و يراقص النساء... صار الآن إمام المقام!

أحياناً يكون انقطاع الكهرباء نعمة تجبرك على الابتعاد عن أي شيء يعمل بها!

في الفصل التاسع ينكسر عبدالكريم مرتين, مرة ً عندما يعلن أباه أنه سيتبراً منه إن تزوج مديحة, و مرة ً عندما تتزوج مديحة لضابط يتقدم لها رغم وعد عبدالكريم لها و وعدها له

القصة تسير بانتظام, لا مفاجآت أو تغييرات غير متوقعة, و لكن هذا ليس بالأمر المزعج
القصة تحكي حياة طلاب جامعة في فترة دراستهم فهذا طبيعي... لن يتحولوا فجأة إلى جيمس بوند و فيلم آكشن! هم طلاب مغامراتهم محصورة بشهوات القاهرة و حياتها

الفصل, أغسطس 1956, يمكن أن نسميه فصل "الخورفة"... ما ان لامست قدميه أرض مطار القاهرة, و لم يمض على وجوده في مصر سويعات حتى بدأ ينثر أمواله يمنة و يسرة, تارة بإرادته و تارة شبه غصب بالـ "إكراميات" و الأسعار المبالغ بها

بعد حوالي 60 عاماً من أحداث الرواية... لا أشعر أن القاهرة و مصر تغيرت قيد أنملة واحدة (بشكل سلبي)
