Intrigued by acquaintance daughter who’s writing a Christine POV of the original POTO, which is apparently very different from the musical.

I either don’t read this and feel fomo or read this and freak out that once I finish this series there’s no more books by Carlos Ruiz zafon and I stop. Currently getting into the thick of it again. I love this world.

The Scottish tragedy… man this is so tragic… fuck this man’s ops man 😭 but now that I’ve read the book, the musical was adapted perfectly. It caught the main themes so spot on. The intro is so so so much more poignant now too. Would they know what you overcame? Would they know you rewrote the game? And Eliza’s last song about time. Dude 😭 a more perfect musical absolutely does not exist. I sad

It’s almost hard to listen to now, Jefferson is such an ass. I went to listen to the Hamilton soundtrack instead and it made me sadder. Maybe I’m just extra salty about Jefferson atm because the American exceptionalism/catering to popular exceptionalism he started is also what got us to where we are now…

I don’t think the characters are likeable lol. This is not year 8 dramione fic vibes after all. And I guess I’m not super into the philosophy angle? It’s ok, not my fav of hers though.

It’s a woke agenda climate change/animal protection book!!! I love the setting very much. The description is so vivid. Also gonna steal “everything is gonna either burn drown or die” lol. Felt very seen in this climate nihilism. Yes super depressing.

Dude I could not have picked a more perfect book now they are scrambling!!! Bummed we are not doing CRHT this weekend due to the rain but I had downloaded a bunch of actually fun audiobooks that I had hoped could propel me all 47 miles and I’m now just gobbling this up. I feel like I’m back on 4377!! Where I also clung to a chimney and cried and discovered I had a fear of heights lol

Omg what a delight!!!! It is so reminiscent of DMATMOOBIL!! And I know it’s not a romance but the characters could totally be Dramione hahaha. Defend her thesis in analytic magic? That is straight out of dmat! And she wants her degree from Cambridge and sign off from the committee chair. So hermione coded haha. It’s even set in Cambridge!

Also sensing it to be satirical like yellow face was. I love this author

You would’ve done so much more if you only had time 😭 all the Eliza bits are so so sad. Just as sad as the musical I guess. I also now have a low opinion of all the other founding fathers. Especially Thomas Jefferson. What a dick!

I can see how it’s dry sorta like 3 body problem. Almost reads kinda like lore, very flat characters. Reminds me a bit of 三国 history

Easily the best book I’ve read this year. What a unique treatment of the war, history, identity. Also interesting to read that the simmering anger in the book is intentional to fill a void in literature about the war, and holding all accountable. I’m angry after reading this book. It’s really really well done. S/O Toni Morrison.

Picked another Mary roach for book club, slight regret. It’s kind of a… quirky… book to use the authors word lol. Why is it so hard to be rational about a human body? When I’m dead I don’t give a fuck what happens to it. But as Alan and I listen to it on our drives with endless wincing and cringing…..

(2/2) The exploration of the Asian American (viet/jap/mixed) experience was also interesting. Overall really tugged at my heart strings, deeply sad while I’m belly laughing and chortling. Wow. Such an excellent read. Still 30 % more to go!

(1/2) had trouble getting through this many times before but this time, wow. So excellent. I thought it was satire like catch 22 but it’s really not. It’s so real. Still funny like catch 22 though, but sad. Like funny in the way that when something horrible happens, you just have to laugh at it cos if you don’t you’d cry. It’s also very engrossing and clever. Very excellent read.
