MWT is such a master of restraint that a character calling someone they love by their first name can make me gasp aloud

I think Sophos finally telling everyone to shut up is truly the most satisfying moment of this entire book

I forgot that I can get serious second-hand stress from an Austen book — is that how you know she’s a master?

Also, if I was Fanny I fear that I would simply resort to VIOLENCE if harassed like this

Started reading this in its entirety as well so it’s going on the list!
Really like how much actual camping advice they have in here; I thought it’d be just recipes but it’s a lot more practical

I can’t properly explain how cool this scene was but Sidney unlocks his highly competent persona after downing that brandy

Also Jerry really said “But enough about that” after making a claim like THAT 💀

Legitimately wondering if Dickens wrote this just to dunk on the French

Also, this is a terrible plan, Charles!

Every time someone complains that this book isn’t “romantic” or “fun” I can hear Jane Austen shouting from her grave about the long lasting psychological effects of CHILD ABUSE

On a completely unrelated note, I want to throw a chair at Mrs. Norris

Not sure how I feel about Dickens’ prose but those first four chapters are a WILD start to a plot

This book doesn’t have a normal climax; it hits the gas at the halfway point and just goes at full speed until the ending

Listening to the Andy Serkis narration is crazy because he does such an amazing variety of voices and narrator inflection that you forget who it is and then you get to Chapter 5 and it’s Gollum at 1000% in all his disgusting, pathetic glory.
