Why are we bothering to look for this crazy bitch now instead of just getting off this island

I think I hate this book

These paybacks feel wildly disproportionate. Esther is completely fucked. But also I really don't give a shit about any of them, not even potentially fake Poppy.

I don't understand the impulse when your battery still has 10% to just give in and get drunk instead of first walking to the top of the cliff to see if you can get a better signal at the very least. They're too stupid to live.

So... Theory: Poppy surely killed herself, and her sister Wendy is taking revenge. The End.

Even if the story is fairly obvious so far, I'm still engaged with how terrible everyone is being. A solid, brutal, bloody ending will convince me to add an extra star to my mental rating.

I know everyone is going to be horrible in this, and it's just a race to see which of them is the lesser evil.

The only ones that are currently blameless are Robin the water taxi driver, and Annabel's mother

No matter how self aware the story, intentionally the supposed hero remains the most boring part of this book (Marius, get over yourself)

I just want it noted, before any big reveal occurs, that bloodthirsty bulldog Key is my favourite

Sometimes you barely start a book and realize it's already written so much better than say the last 10 books you've read... Damn

Everyone is lying to you who said this book was worth your time

So much of this book is the protagonist asking stupid internal questions, not even naive or sheltered questions. She is the shittiest journalist.

I may possibly be hate reading this at this point. I'm not really sold on the parasocial nature of her inquiries. Neither do I really believe that she was at any point a decent reporter / detective.

And then this stupid bitch goes into this fucking speech about how you don't have to figure your mother but you can choose to live a life without her to stop her from harming you, and I'm like "the call is coming from inside the house!"

Current mood: I have no sympathy for her. It's a shame this seemingly hot male lead was wasted on this book.

I'm not so much in hate with these characters that I can't see the parallels between the mothers. They fucked up their kids and themselves in their own ways.

But Justin's mom is a giver. Emma's is a taker. Different levels of forgiveness here between them...
