Fry Morgan is 29% done with All About Love: New Visions
Started this book as part of a club I joined for the sole purpose of intentionally exposing myself to ideas and material that is outside my usual domain.
So far it reads like a glorified social media rant (before social media was): lots of strong opinions lacking nuance worded as objective facts, some blatant factual inaccuracies, and a sprinkling of self-help statements of wisdom here and there.

Continues to be low-yield, with very forced ideas.

Nope, I don't think any Thay book should be more than 100 pages long. His bibliography feels very recycled after you read two or three of his books. I think Thay is a teacher you learn from in person, not in words.

I don't like this book. It's like reading a whitewashed, wordier version of Thich Nhat Hanh.

Made it to chapter 8, "Mindfulness In Every Day Life." OK book so far. Some redundancy to it, a lot of repetition. I think I can still power through.

For me, the only downside to Thich Nhat Hanh's bibliography is the narrowness of its scope. I have nothing against his perspective, his subject matter - in fact, it nourishes my soul.
Yet, several books into Hanh's work, you realize, "I think I've heard most of what he has to say."
So far, this book has been needlessly dragging on. Ideas are repeated again and again, and the writing seems somewhat helter-skelter.

Fry Morgan is on page 57 of 301 of The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference
This has become a rambling series of anecdotes and names and places and dates and random stories about people who met other people through other people.
I think I will drop this book for now, it's too distracting/scattered. In all fairness, it was not a book I would have picked up on my own, it was suggested to me by one of my favorite faculty members.

This book is on hold for me until further notice.

Wholeheartedly relishing every word.
But the language is just so forced. The author is overdoing his "word pictures." Instead of using gentle touches of literary "makeup" to create an agreeable, soft made-up face, the outcome is more like the intense, screeching hues on a drag queen.

Interesting how the understanding of homosexuality has evolved to where it is today from, "The homosexual deviation is a failure to attain this polarized union, and thus the homosexual suffers from the pain of never-resolved separateness, a failure, however, which he shares with the average heterosexual who cannot love."

I'm obsessed with the author and the book - and I'm only done with the Introduction. Her style is mesmerizing. This is going to be fun.

Up to chapter 4.
As a psychiatrist in training, with particular interest in addiction and substance use disorders, this book - so far - is an honest, heartfelt, educational case study. I find it an indispensable complement to the dry, academic case studies. It adds the personal, human touch to the data and numbers.

This is one of the most superficial reads I've been exposed to. The author deliveries much less than he has promised in the book's title. I'm still toiling through the book, giving it the benefit of the doubt, only because I agree with its premise, viz., that religion distorts sexuality.
