In the championship of the hunting competition, off to a good start with a quick find for the first hide. And the hunt continues.

Grandpa springs a coon hunt competition on him. They're all excited to go, just leaving at the end of the concluded chapter.

Hunting the "ghost coon" turned tragic, but the treatment didn't seem to me serious enough, ending with a "I did a small thing that made me feel better about it, so let's go hunting again." I guess it is a YA book, but that casualness still surprised me.

Every chapter a new horror, or at least another thing to be perturbed about.

I shouldn't be surprised, and yet it's maddening to read yet again how the US political system has been skewed to deliver rewards to those that seem to need them least.

Through the trip to Utah and Moab, now the big trip to Yellowstone via Teddy Roosevelt's park in Western ND.

Enjoying her facility with making humor out of things, like the nearest town to a place in AR being "Flippin" (think "Flippin city government, Flippin police," etc).

Loved the anecdote about her son loving Godzilla and her having to read him the subtitles while he watched when home sick from school. And the comparison to Harry Truman, and also to J. Robert Oppenheimer.

I bought this ebook on sale quite a while ago but never read beyond about ch 1 at the time. Decided I'm going to try using this as my "daily read" this year, rather than a revisit of one of my other books (like Daily Stoic, etc). Even the overview so far is interesting, describing how our behaviors are impacted not just by what happened 1 second ago, but days, years, eons (via evolution) in the past.

The theme so far appears to be "everything you learned about exercise has been wrong." Eg warm-up, cool-down, stretching, ideal exertion level for getting fit.... The list goes on.
