I had forgotten how close he comes to ending his troubles, and that the interruption includes the apple trees of his home.

Nice chapter on "simplex stepping" but it was hard to read about the Washington Post becoming a great paper when it has fallen so far controlled by Bezos.

Just finished the chapter about "the fog," now on to simplex stepping to find the way out.

Good intro from author's personal life, then exposition of Barbara McClintock, geneticist, & Grace Hopper, computer ... advocate? Mathematician turned computer scientist?

So weird.

Compelling story, even if there's not likely a bigger theme.

Not exactly what I expected, given the title, but some interesting thoughts/techniques. I will describe it as being about playing from a lead sheet, but there's somewhat more in here than just that.

Reexperiencing this lovely audiobook (again!) because it is the next book the new Hokah library book club will be reading. I suspect I'll also get the hard copy text in another week or two, at least to skim through some parts, but listening to Tom Hanks read this enjoyable story is too nice a treat to pass up even if I have listened previously - Goodreads tells me it was already back in 2020 when I last read this.

The bad habit correction schemes in ch 3 seem to emphasize the role of a teacher, so may be challenging to implement solo.

The benefits of breaks seem really valuable, so should really figure out a way to apply that idea consistently.

The whole turkey incident. And now Solomon is gone and not coming back.
