A friend who knows I like Civil War history recommended this book. The authors are Nash Burger and John Buttersworth (both Southerners). This is really a book about the Reconstruction which tells of the role that ten prominent confederates played in helping the South be restored to the United States. The book was written in 1959. History was written differently in 1959.

I’m very impressed by this book, only two chapters into it. The author introduces each chapter with a personal reflection and how his own walk of faith resonates with the life of the historical subject. The chapters are not short biographies, but rather focus on a particular time, or aspect of the person’s life. The style is the best type of “you are there.”
