Started this as a bit of a breather after two longer books. Alan Hollinghurst says it’s his favorite if I remember correctly. It is living up to that expectation so far. Fantastically, economically written.

In the last 70 pages, it’s like Desai has remembered there’s a plot to be following

After a brief lull I am back in and loving it!

I am beginning to worry I might not reach the end of this by the end of the year.

We have left childhood behind and just covered Liza with a Z and Cabaret - considering how long we spent on childhood, it’s shocking how quickly those two immense pieces of art passed by!!!

I’m not sure if I’ll make it through this - the prose is not exactly crisp, and it is already very repetitive!

Continuing slowly with this book which is delicious in small morsels because it’s so dizzyingly vivid. I’m happy and surprised that I can still follow all the characters and storylines even if I started reading this months ago.

On Eoin’s recommendation

Hoping to restart my 30 mins of reading first thing in the morning & one chapter before bed routine!

Just started and already know I’m gonna love it 😭

I started reading this 7 years ago 😭

Sally I hope you talk about when and why you take legal action against people who cross a line in copying you

What they did to that trailer is horrible!!!

Tearing through this. I love the omniscience, and the writing about music which is an art form I so rarely think about or listen to (especially classical music) that I feel like I’m learning!

Flying through this! Feel engrossed somehow. Love all the detail of the world these characters live in.

Flicked through this in a bookstore and felt it was exactly what I needed right now to try and organize and be more intentional with my artistic practice

Reading this for tutoring. Not bad!

We are racing through Patti’s musical career and courtship with Fred! The pace changed so abruptly

Ploughing back in because Charlie loves this book. It’s getting more gripping!
