Okay so far I am extremely obsessed with this!! Alexei journaling because he can't handle small talk (and also being irrationally upset that Ben is being just as nice to other people as he is to Alexei so therefore it's not special that he's being nice to Alexei??) is such a mood. Also love all the scenery/hiking culture details!

So far entertaining, and I do love those turning your life around type stories, but... this book is weirdly slut shaming for something written in 2016. Also not a fan of the main character listing "Bisexual" as the reason she broke up with a man. Seriously, can we not? I hope the rest of the book isn't like this...

I'm almost halfway through this book and we still haven't gotten to the steamy affair with Ken Matthews. Come on, people, step it up.

Getting my guesses in now: Misha drowned Kaycee in the reservoir. Brent was either involved or suspects it (“She’ll drink you under the table. Or under the reservoir, as the case may be”). Abby might have been there, possibly drunk herself and possibly being assaulted. Condor is probably innocent/the most viable love interest (although I could see a bait and switch with Brent, depending).

Why is Freddy talking so strangely? The only other person who talks like him is a character written as having a mental disability. Eg, "Thought you'd be pleased! Time I was getting married. Brought Kit up to town, you see. Felt you'd wish to become acquainted with her." "N-never thought of such a th-thing, sir! That is--n-not as bad as that! Always very fond of Kit, of course!" "Bound to! Well, what I mean is, must!"

What a weird fucking book.

I assume JP Morgan’s acne rosacea is just a red herring and he’s not actually the murderer, but that’d be a wild twist...

Oops, the key incident happened on page 154, not 134.

One of the main characters just misplaced the keys to their office so you know the killer has them now...!

Yup they just had sex.

When a male character and a female character are walking in the woods and one of them points out that the forest looks like a cathedral they are definitely about to have sex.

Prediction: Kathryn will start seeing Moss and then Chris’ll go out of his mind with jealousy because open relationships are only fine and dandy when he initiates it. Or: Chris will pretend to be fine and then Kathryn will be irritated because she just wanted to make him jealous. Either way: I hate these people. But mostly Chris.

Why are women always talking themselves into open relationships by saying “She doesn’t own him”?! Monogamy is not ownership and it really irritates me when women are pressured to be “cool” and “chill” and let their husband sleep with another woman while they’re clearly not happy with it.

Kathryn is clearly NOT on board with this open relationship thing and we’ve already established that Chris is garbage so idk why we’re still acting like this is a good idea.

This book is super fucking pretentious and I already hate these people (but mostly Chris). Filing it under “Still going to finish it anyway because it’s short and I’ve already gotten this far.”

Of course the overweight, sixty-year-old retired detective gets to sleep with the thin, attractive woman twenty years younger than him. Because “I haven’t had sex in two years, and the last I did have sucked... I deserve this.” Naturally, her ex-husband was an abusive asshole, allowing us to establish that the detective is a Good Man who will Treat Her Right.

It was nice knowing you, Marek... but the heroine never winds up with the romantic foreigner when she can argue with the gruff yet attractive Scotsman who conveniently lives next door.

Just finished The Fellowship of the Ring! Not my favorite of the movies, but I think my favorite of the books. Now to finish watching the movie...
