Outside of Stephen King, I am having a hard time remembering a book that does such a good job of capturing anxiety and dread and passing those feelings onto the reader (at least this reader).

"We uttered, bellowed really, vilenesses that would make a pornographer blush." The author on a group of mental patients losing at ping pong to a seemingly inferior opponent.
