I am worried. I was hoping the bureaucracy was behind us now, but I'm 5 per cent in and there's been nothing but talk about granaries. "We don't have enough in our granaries to pay you" "blah blah import grain from the granaries in x place" "blah blah logistics of importing/exporting grain" I now hate the word granary.

But, it is only 5% in, so... 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Can't wait to see what absolute bat-shit insanity is gonna happen in this one

It's absolutely fucking brilliant, the writing feels so simple but also so lyrical; it's beautiful and horrifying while all the time feeling strangely gentle?? Last time I felt this way about a book was The Road by Cormac McCarthy

Why do I have a terrible feeling I know exactly where this is going and I've read this book before 🙃 I stg if this ends up with a modern day version of the "flower" I am gonna be pissed lol

From what I'd read I was expecting this book to be batshit crazy, I'm 62% in and it's not batshit crazy at all I am disappointed

Gonna be honest I was unsure going in, and it took a few chapters but now somehow I am fully emotionally invested in the relationship between a prince and his pet fish???

I've already read a fan translation of this but thought I'd be thorough and give the official translation a whirl. Clearly I am a masochist

Took a long break from novel reading to indulge in some wonderful fanfiction. Happy to be back to this book though, I'm absolutely loving it, so beautifully written. Can't believe how different (vastly superior) I find it compared to Interview with the Vampire. Crazy to think I would never have even given this a chance if I hadn't been given a friend's old copy!

Completely forgot I started this on Audible, went to get it on a recommendation only to find I already had it! Restarted and now am about a third of the way through and absolutely loving it!

Honestly this book is pissing me off. For a so-called feminist writer, it is distinctly un-feminist. Yeah it's looking at the story from Penelope's point of view, wanting to show how she was more than just a "well behaved patient wife"

And yet it constantly falls into the trap of women against each other. Penelope hates every single other woman in the story, and they her (and not in an unreliable narrator type way).

I'm actually really enjoying this, it's a lot of fun.
