well’s writing is just so underwhelming. the invisible man had humor which made the blandness bearable. i’m starting to worry that the invisible man was supposed to be series and not a funny ha ha book based on how bland this one is

i don’t know why this was allowed to be published the way it is?

so far this book is just bad and i haven’t even gotten to the fucked up stuff yet. the writing is so bad. it’s so bad😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

so far. everything is tell tell tell tell. even the stupidest of details are told. example - women wearing excessive and lavish dress: narrator explains the women is the excessive and extravagant and must be new to money. could have i come up with this conclusion by myself from just the imagery???? yes. but author needs to tell everything god damn thing

i picked this up mostly to torture myself and judge it. so far the first 30 pages have been intense info dumping about the science of magic as a women has been pulled from a torture stasis chamber 👍🏻 i think everything is supposed to read as mcabe but to me it is reading as silly

this book is SO HARD TO READ 😭😭😭 I HAVE A LITERATURE DEGREE FOR CHRISTS SAKE

even on the re-read Ephrims point of view is really difficult to sink into. it shows us such a different side of the world that it can feel like a whole different book. in good news, i don’t feel this way about Lyra. I am loving her POV, which I originally hated.

i got the audio book back

idk this is too whimsy for me 🫩 there’s not enough explanation to why things work the way the do and it’s making me mad

okay then it got too fast

slow start, not what I expected. simple. repetitive. (not saying it’s bad though)

i, will be slowing down in my reading of this. it is not something it listen carelessly to. had very long complex pros that take a moment to unpack

hard to read allat once due to disjointed story telling, not jumping around, but each chapter feels like it’s own little story making it hard to move from one to the next

also the enemies to lovers are bonding over what is the equivalent of being obsessed with percy jackson books as a child

also time travel ?

harry potter expect mc is a deep undercover cop trying to take down al capone and the love interest is his son?

okay this is really good. first book i’ve read in fantasy in a long time that has a discernible plot and word building. WOO

hmmmm i think if i were reading this aloud id be having a lot more fun

i just wonder like, when you close your eyes and try to escape at night this is the world the author invented ? idk

i think this is one of those books where they’re trying to convince me the male lead is not evil but it’s not working so far

this is… a guilty pleasure book. so far it is certainly not awful but it is def not something I would recommend T-T

to give it some credit, it’s a lot less worse then i expected it to be

i’m not finishing this before i run out of library time. the audio book is so freaking good though
