Good stuff, if dated. It definitely gets you through the rudiments of using Powershell in an admin context.

The Magic of Reality: How We Know What's Really True
Excellent discussion of extraterrestrial life and why it may have some similarities with life on Earth. Now on to the Big Questions, like "Why do bad things happen to good people?"

Excellent so far, though he does cover a lot of the same material (even some of the same anecdotes) that he previously discussed in The Greatest Show on Earth.

I'm loving this. There are some scientific errors, which is to be expected, but the run of his argument is strong- the body and mind are a material unity and pass out of existence at death. No hell below us, above us only sky, in other words.

A beautiful book, full of the beauty and wonder of the natural world, earthly wisdom, and a surprising amount of good science.

Still quite good, although I chafe against some the anachronistic ideas (the idea of 'oriental despotism' for example) and his naive views regarding American interventionism.

At this point it has provided a general outline of Ethical Humanist thought and its origin in American Transcendentalism and Unitarianism. Fascinating.

The God Argument: The Case against Religion and for Humanism
Very good so far. Had some qualms about how he addresses certain aspects of the concept of rationality, but so far I agree with his overall argument. Very well written besides.

Excellent book so far. Critical of traditional creedal religion, especially Christianity, while acknowledging ethical advances that were made under the aegis of these religions. The author considers Ethical religion to be something that people of all races and classes and creeds can embrace and even criticizes Westerners for failing to reach out to non-Western peoples on this ethical basis.

Chugging on through as I get time. Anatole France's essay on miracles was boss and Mark Twain's discussion of the fly (and natural theology in general) was profound.

Good stuff so far. The excerpt from Darwin was typical, mild Charles. Shelley was amazing. And I love Hume and Lucretius. Between this book and Pinker's 'Better Angles of our Nature,' I've also gained a new appreciation for Hobbes.

Pretty good so far. The first part of the book deals with the aftermath of the first book and with the protagonist's attempts to leave his old life. Halfway through the action begins to pick up.

False Colors (Wing Commander)
Pretty good so far. Lots of info on the immediate aftermath of the Terran-Kilrathi war. Tolwyn, Bear, and Sparks play important roles and Doomsday and 'Colonel Blair' are name-dropped, the latter being a first in the Wing Commander novels that aren't direct video game tie-ins. The plot is interesting and we get more character development for Tolwyn.

Capital: Critique of Political Economy, Vol 1: A Critical Analysis of Capitalist Production
Home Stretch! Both Part VII and Part VIII make quite good reading apart from the rest of the work. The first deals with the general theory of capitalist accumulation and the later with the actual history of primitive accumulation. Both are powerful tools for activists.
