I just read about Mc Carthy and the invention of LISP. Very interesting. I was reminded of ((the power of recursion) and (of the fact that (many (programs and procedures)) can be (formulated in) a (list processing paradigm)).

Very useful advise for parents of a baby and the mechanisms are explained. But a bit overemphasizing the fourth trimester theory.. good avislcecfor calming but I miss a bit notes on how to support active phases and learning.

"Aber das verzaubernde Licht sammelte sich auf der gewölbten Fläche des riesigen Globus, der auf einem schwarzen Sockel frei vor der Mitte der Bücherreihen stand. Seine Gebirge waren mit braunen Erhebungen angedeutet, seine Ebenen wie wiesen getönt, von einem Netzwerk von Strömen durchflochten, und seine Meere schimmerte nun purpurn im Abendlicht.".. it reminded me of my past travels, being now here since a year.

So far I like it very much. I always wondered how it was to be growing up in the Soviet Union. And how the Baltic States were reemerging from this. Some of the anecdotes are very funny, and everyday life with it's little adventures is so nicely described; and the learning about the society in that time happens on the side, from the angle of a child retold.

Reading about relationships: although romantic idea of love is that it is unconditional, to keep a relationship interesting it is perhaps better to also proceed practically. With me resonates the idea that it is a fire that needs to be kindled, and that active listening is important. G. also stresses that one should not hide ones own needs, as in a healthy relationship the partner reciprocally wants to do you good.

So far it is well written, by someone who practices what he preaches. Goggins has completed amazing tasks, starting from ordinary or even less privileged settings. I like the comparison between the three running disciplines, sprint, mid-distance, and marathon.

Julian and Jaisak did not notice how the black-blue sky I the tinfuk flooded with a blue glow that had swallowed up the stars. The night passed by in a fleeting moment.

I did not read this for a long time. I like the description of practicing to reach higher level. First clumsy then elegant, and not to listen to the envious crowd.

The book has already some interesting ideas
imagine a model student to whom you give the class
students have different motivation, you can tailor parts
make breaks and ask questions in breaks
marketing, not experts trap, not reading other peoples slides

Some very inspirational thoughts, so far. There's some similarity between the way people approach important life questions. Not so much a book about time Ferris but a collection of life views expressed by answering the same questionaire. Perhaps it is the way the questions are asked or the kind of people asked. But some very useful insight, and moving anecdotes, indeed.

"This expedition is the main purpose of my life. Throughout many sleepless nights I have been thinking about it, dreaming of it. ... Man's soul yearns for the new and unknown", the exited Butakov lapsed into silence.
