One of the best observations from him is the drastic culture shift that happens when deer season opens. Everyone is in camo. Women still trying to look cute while decked in camo and even making their arrow fletching cute 🤣. All real. But then this very naive paragraph about how everyone pointlessly wears camo out of some craze because ultimately wearing orange renders the camo completely pointless????????

Objectively untrue statements:
-He reports the paperwork at the DMV asked him what color he was instead of race/ethnicity. I’m sorry, but no it didn’t. MS paperwork is not archaic.
-He reports that the word “plantation” is going out of style and most people have started using the word farm. Never have I heard the word plantation used unless referring to a specifically named location.

My husband’s grandfather has been trying to get me to read this for years but I’ve resisted because while I can have complicated opinions about my home, the Mississippi Delta, I didn’t want to hear the analysis of a British New Yorker. Mississippi is a complex and beautiful place. The Delta is that times 100. I love it and I lament it at the same time. I am very much enjoying this so far though.
