What a ride! I was in colluduring this insane time in US history; I knew about these dissident groups but was too involved in school to pay much attention. Also, my dad was a CIA operative at the time, although I was unaware of this.

The language in this book is absolutely ravishing. Already I have 31 highlights, each one regarding language. Please take a look at them if you aren’t sure this is a book for you. Sometimes the author dips into the saccharine or the obvious, but usually she creates short, luminous strings of sentences that are irresistible.

Not sure if this is a bodice ripper, a work of historical fiction or a condescending novel about Puritians.

A looooong book filled with plenty of Gothic, Victorian turns and characters. For me, it was too long indeed.

I enjoyed it and I hated it.

Enjoyed the look into Dickensian London and the poverty, filth, greed and appetites of society at the time.

Hated because the narrator is so loathsome and verbose.

If you are interested in Dickens and Victorian London, by all means read this massive tome.

I’m loving this book. Although the author may be overstating Harriman’s importance, but it is fascinating and so worth reading.

I’m not sure that I like this book. I’m finding the cursing child to be tiresome and strained. The single-mindedness of the main character is impressive but that two people like Patch and Saint both happen to be geniuses in their fields is a bit much.
