A brilliant, if disturbing, look into the mind, relationships, and how our histories, personal and interpersonal, drive us to do the things we do, and how our childhood traumas contribute to the trauma we will inflict as adults, intentionally or not. Perfect for people who enjoy philosophy and psychology, and who spend a lot of time trying to figure out why people do the things they do and are the way they are.

Such sweet characters, but I wish more time was dedicated to their backstories and personalities -- all we get are brief little glances, so much wasted potential there! The book also really would have benefited from more editing and proofreading. So much page-space is used to repeat the same lines again and again that could have been used to elaborate on so many interesting tidbits we're only teased with.

DNFed the Kindle version a few years ago at about 40%, but have since become a total junkie for the show and coudn't resist getting the gorgeous colorful special editions when they came out recently and trying again! Reading it through a few weeks of illness and enjoying it so much this time around; it's been such a comfort while I've been unwell. ♥︎

Already so much more compelling than Well of Ascension was! Feels like WoA was just a prologue for this book. Hard to put down.

Reading this because it has been about 20 years since I last researched Wicca and I felt like I needed to catch up on what my fellow Pagans are up to, as my knowledge feels outdated. As Mooney writes, "The hey-day of solitary, eclectic, do-it-yourself Wicca seems to be over."

As an out-of-place black and white person myself, whose family stories were likewise lost through slavery and (in my case) through my mother's adoption, leaving my mother and I without the "last bit of mortar to secure the mosaic of my identity," I am finding this book so immensely relatable. I feel so lucky to feel like I have a home now, but can't wait to learn how/if Diakité has arrived at that feeling, too!

The wealth of information on other deities besides Loki in this book has been a very pleasant surprise. I would recommend it to Scandinavian Heathens for that reason alone. Loptson's descriptions are very insightful, and he makes connections between and proposals about deities based on our fragmentary knowledge of their lore and historical worship that are eye-opening. He's served the gods well with his scholarship!

I prefer modern translations of holy books, and Haleem's translation and notes make the Qur'an very accessible. However, I wouldn't recommend attempting any translation without the context of a biography of Muhammad's life and/or a history of Islam. Reading Lesley Hazleton's The First Muslim: The Story of Muhammad simultaneously is making it a much more informative experience!

Thus far, a beautifully-written look at both the mystical and divine, and very human components of Muhammad's life, pieced together from both ancient sources and modern awareness of sociology and human nature.

Could use a female character or two who isn't overly sexualized, and preferably a female POV character... but that's my only complaint! Loving it otherwise!

I like the novelty of writing in the vernacular of the era, but I think it got away from Cho... It's a little over-the-top.

Suri has got to be one of the most unique and BA characters I have ever encountered, and Age of Myth has the funniest and wittiest dialogue I have ever read in a fantasy novel. I'm loving everything about it!

Engrossing. The relationship between the long-lived beings and the humans is very interesting. This makes two books in a row now in which the main characters have had their deep-seated beliefs on the nature of the gods drastically challenged and changed! Always an interesting idea.

This book is like candy!! So. Freaking. Good. Tolkien was such a genius. Arda, the realm in which Middle-Earth exists, and many more lands besides, has as much depth as the real world, and a mythology and history that is just absolutely delicious!

If you enjoyed the film, and especially if it is at all nostalgic for you, I can't imagine that you wouldn't love this book even more. I was surprised to find that Goldman's writing is often as beautiful and poignant as it is laugh-at-loud funny.
