I'm trialling a new way of reading this year, where I pre-select books I'll read for the year, and go through them, rather than a free for all. Hopefully will help me realise I shouldn't spend all my free time reading, even if I want to!

His biblical theology is strained at times, but great reflections! E.g. "What though thy way be dark, canst thou not gladden thine heart with the triumphs of his cross and the spread of his truth?"

So I don't forget, this is a modern book but almost harder to understand than those ancient theologians!

He talks about the Greek word for new (kainos) and how it's different to Neosa (flashy/new). But then doesn't talk about what evangelism actually is (so a painting becomes evangelism too)

The first bit on how art shows us we live for beauty not just productivity was good though.

It's pretty fun, but quite repetitive. Would only recommend if he wrote a very short introduction version. That would be awesome.

So far: one holiday, Churchill read like 20 "classics" to become more well-read.
He rode a white horse to purposefully be conspicuous to more likely win a medal in his battles.
Was he really that conceited?

Like Game of Thrones set in Japan. I am almost hoping my baby keeps up at night so I can read the next bit!
Caveats: the start is a bit hard to get in to (lots of names to remember!) and this isn't real Japan, better to imagine the land called "Shogun-Land" which is based on Japan, but very idealistic, that makes it more believable and therefore more enjoyable

Man, I am loving this book! Read 100 pages in less than an hour.
Obviously some flaws, but it's just too good that I don't care. So excited, sad that I have to sleep!

We find the universal God in his particularity as the God of Israel, as the God of Jesus.

Mission takes place on the way from the particularity of God's action in Jesus to the universal coming of God's kingdom.

If militant Islam treats cultural diversity with contempt, so does economic globalisation.

Chapter 13 and 20 are key so far.
Very engrossing, I read 234 pages in just 2 days!

This is my lockdown read. Hmmm, just finished the first section on a broad overview of combining Bowen theory with Christian thinking. Basically Bowen describes true things (that existed before him, he is just describing them now with new words) but misses out on sin / forgiveness. But is helpful as church is family too (but how so?)

The chapter on Timothy was very eisegesis like, I didn't find it too helpful.

"Embracing him by faith can give you a purposeful life that is death camp proof".
More rational, communal and durable.
