I am surprised in Overturned. Nikki found her dad, but has to protect him with all her might. For some reason, people found the search as an opportunity to kill her dad, instead of just finding him. "Don't care if he makes it back alive or not, but we need justice." Is what Nikki overheard someone saying about her dad.

I am surprised in Overturned. Many people have heard the price of finding Nikki's dad, so now many people are looking for him. They want him not because they're scared for him, but because police think he's up to no good. "I see my friends, my neighbors, my people, looking for him. Just for the prize."(148). This is when people leave, and turn their back's on Nikki, for money.

Nikki Tate is a brave character. Nikki's dad is now gone, and it doesn't look like he's coming back. The police are looking for him, but only because they think he's up to no good. Nikki thinks the same thing, and wants to save him before the cops get there first. "It's up to me now, I can't lose him again."(126) Is what Nikki says to herself, preparing to find him.

I am angry in Overturned. Nikki's dad has went to jail, almost split the family apart, and nearly got killed from playing poker. He gets specific instructions from his wife, not to play, unless it's a friendly game with friends. The next day, he leaves again, but is caught by Nikki. "It's just for fun, Nik. No harm at all."(98). This is his lie that he tells Nikki, before he leaves for days.

I am surprised in Overturned. Nikki's dad was recently taken out of jail from being accused of (questionably) false murder. The whole event started when someone who was beating him at gambling, was killed. He is almost fully off the hook, but instead of living low profile, and staying at home, he goes out again to gamble more. "There is where he lay. On the bed, asleep, drink in one hand, money in the other." (62).

I am surprised in Zero Day. While Darrow is looking for Addie, he realizes that Addie might not be in a hurry to get back to the White House. Darrow is pretty certain that Addie saw him, while trying to save her from the kidnappers, and that she is avoiding him. "She must have seen me. Or at least my note. Why isn't she coming?"(141). He is wondering this after doing things to make her notice him.

I am confused in Zero Day. Darrow is looking for Addie in the place where she was kidnapped. However, Darrow isn't quick to save her. He is acting as if he is trying to spy on her. "Closer, closer, closer, too close."(132). That is what Darrow was muttering as he closed in on Addie, signifying that he is, indeed, spying.

I am surprised in Zero Day. The people who kidnapped Addie, is in contact with secret scientists. To keep in touch, they use a private email. As Addie is looking for an exit, she finds the emails, left open, and realizes that the Adele (Addie's mother) she'd just seen was a mere robotic clone. She also finds out that the real Adele is really dead! "She knew the consequences of leaving the back gate open"(108).

I am surprised in Zero Day. Addie is kidnapped, but the place she is taken to has other children who were also kidnapped. The criminals make the kids call them "Father", and follow weird but strict rules."Rules little one, in this house we have rules... Did you listen to Father today?"(86) said one of the criminals. It makes the whole thing seem like a cult of kidnapped children.

I was surprised in Zero Day. The whole government is looking for Addie, who is now stolen, but can't find her. "Everything was exactly the same, right down to the hopscotch rug in the center. Except for one very important thing: Addie wasn't there." (80). You would think that if the secret services found her once, they should have found her again, or at least know where to look.

I am surprised in Zero Day. Addie is now living in the white house, rescued from her kidnapping. She is allowed to leave the house by her self. But then, while she is walking down the street, she gets kidnapped AGAIN by the same people. "A pair of cold hands pulled her back into the nightmare that her life has become."(72). Why wouldn't people keep a very close eye on her, or why the kidnappers would take her again.

I was surprised in Chains. Isabelle is being mistreated, as a slave, by Mr.Robert. Isabelle and Ruth have people by their side, but that don't help. "No charge. I like feeding children." (16), Jenny said after seeing them look hungry. Jenny along with many others grew fond of Isabelle, however , didn't help when Mr.Robert took them.

I wonder why Addie would want to have a big interview, and have random people ask her questions that would make her uncomfortable. Addie was found from her kidnapping, and has to deal with strangers interviewing her. Since the day she got in, she had cameras and microphones in her face. When she hears about the idea to for many of people to ask questions, you’d think she would say no. But she wanted to do it.

I'm having an internal conflict with myself. Many years after Addie is kidnapped, Darrow is working as a spy, and has to get from a dark ally to a bar. While he's walking, he notices a black van, looking suspicious, and following him. The van followed Darrow 2 miles, until Darrow got to the bar. Once he walked in, the van drove away. His boss called, and asked "Did anybody notice you?", but Darrow said no.

In "Zero Day", there is lots of self-to-self conflict. When Addie Webster gets kidnapped, everyone thinks of the what-ifs and thinks that the kidnapping is their fault. Her father thought "What if I just checked on my daughter?". Her mother thought "What if I'd delayed the meeting about the new software rollout?". And most of all, her best friend, Darrow, was thinking "What if I just let Addie win that stupid game?".

Addie Webster from the book "Zero Day" is very competitive. Darrow Furgusson, Addie's best friend, says that she wins at everything, from board games to breath-holding competitions. When Darrow was about to win at a connect-4 game, Addie "slipped" and knocked over the game. As Darrow accused her of cheating, she said: "I don't cheat! And I was done with that dumb game anyway!"(3), then she ran away.

I am confused in the 8th continent. Humans and robots live side-by-side, however they fight almost always. Humans were the one who created the robots to live happily with them. But why would they make them if they would just argue about everything?

I am surprised in the 8th Continent. The human race was able to create robots that could teach you and do your chores, yet they can't keep a simple bird species alive. Many people even want to help get animals out of the polluted areas, but for some reason, the government wants to keep them there.

I like this #39 Clues book because it showed how Dan and Amy went through conflict well. It helped you see how hard they went through self vs self, and self vs society. "You can trust me... I promise."115, is said when a family also in the clue hunt, that wanted to join their group, supposedly to help them. Dan and Amy had to think quick and they had to go with their gut instinct.

I am confused in the 39 Clues. The Holts, who were a family in the games, were paired up with Dan and Amy, but right as they found something without them, the Holts said they wanted to not be a team anymore. That is strange because I would think that you wold want to get the clue before saying "Game on, Cahills. GAME ON!"168.

"My heart stopped when I saw Irena sitting in the chair in front of me. She lied about the plans to get to NRR."143. This is an example of hyperbole. This means that Amy was super scared/surprised. The author used this to show that Amy wasn't just jump-out-with-a-scary-mask scared, but super terrified.

I think that one day, Amy will get Dan in a lot of trouble. Just on a normal day (for them), Amy jumped in a restricted museum closet, looking for jewels. On top of her "great" idea to snoop around in a museum, she jumps back out as a HUGE bodyguard is passing her. "IF YOU COME BACK HERE AGAIN, YOU'RE DEAD!!!" screams an 'roid-raging bodyguard as he just misses Amy and Dan out of the museum entrance.

I think that the NRR, a mysterious group that Amy and Dan are working with will try to kill them. Irena Spasky, an assassin going up against Amy and Dan, hunted them down just to tell them that the NRR will kill them both the first chance they got. "If I were you, I would leave Russia immediately. But hey, it's your death." Irena said after tracking them down. Nobody has seen the NRR before, which is suspicious.

Dan is tough. Whenever Dan gets pushed around or hurt, he doesn't go off crying. He always just gets back up and keeps on fighting. "I'm going to have a monster bruise, but everything's still working. Where to now?" he said after almost shattering his leg on a marble floor. Clumsy or not, this shows that Dan is extremely tough.

Dan is very brave. He doesn't care that he is going up against people who could literally crush him; he always stands his ground. "Did you see me on that motorcycle? Better than you on that donkey." he bragged to Hamilton Holt, a boy that could eat him he's so big. This shows that Dan Cahill is super brave.

The 39 Clues is written in 3rd person. It's never told by any individual character. But you can still get emotions from most of the characters. The setting changes 4-5 times in every book. This is because they are in a need to travel to different countries very often for clues. This can make it hard to follow with what is going on, since the perspective jumps from random characters, but it makes the book interesting.

There was a surprising part in the 39 Clues. Amy and Dan were working together to try and unfold a clue, but they both started to get really aggravated. They were screaming at each other. But Amy and Dan were always nice to each other, because they didn't have any other family. And Amy was left wondering weather the clue hunt brought on the violence.

There was a funny part in the 39 Clues. Dan and Amy were thrown off a boat by their evil cousin, Jonah Wizard. They fall in the Nile River, and realize that a crocodile is hunting them down. They swim to the closest boat that they can see, and get on. The man on the boat is startled, but lets them stay on. And only the reason he let them on was because Dan was wearing a Boston Red Sox t-shirt, and the man was a fan.
