I am surprised in Zero Day. The people who kidnapped Addie, is in contact with secret scientists. To keep in touch, they use a private email. As Addie is looking for an exit, she finds the emails, left open, and realizes that the Adele (Addie's mother) she'd just seen was a mere robotic clone. She also finds out that the real Adele is really dead! "She knew the consequences of leaving the back gate open"(108).

I am surprised in Zero Day. While Darrow is looking for Addie, he realizes that Addie might not be in a hurry to get back to the White House. Darrow is pretty certain that Addie saw him, while trying to save her from the kidnappers, and that she is avoiding him. "She must have seen me. Or at least my note. Why isn't she coming?"(141). He is wondering this after doing things to make her notice him.

I am confused in Zero Day. Darrow is looking for Addie in the place where she was kidnapped. However, Darrow isn't quick to save her. He is acting as if he is trying to spy on her. "Closer, closer, closer, too close."(132). That is what Darrow was muttering as he closed in on Addie, signifying that he is, indeed, spying.

I am surprised in Zero Day. Addie is kidnapped, but the place she is taken to has other children who were also kidnapped. The criminals make the kids call them "Father", and follow weird but strict rules."Rules little one, in this house we have rules... Did you listen to Father today?"(86) said one of the criminals. It makes the whole thing seem like a cult of kidnapped children.

I was surprised in Zero Day. The whole government is looking for Addie, who is now stolen, but can't find her. "Everything was exactly the same, right down to the hopscotch rug in the center. Except for one very important thing: Addie wasn't there." (80). You would think that if the secret services found her once, they should have found her again, or at least know where to look.

I am surprised in Zero Day. Addie is now living in the white house, rescued from her kidnapping. She is allowed to leave the house by her self. But then, while she is walking down the street, she gets kidnapped AGAIN by the same people. "A pair of cold hands pulled her back into the nightmare that her life has become."(72). Why wouldn't people keep a very close eye on her, or why the kidnappers would take her again.

I wonder why Addie would want to have a big interview, and have random people ask her questions that would make her uncomfortable. Addie was found from her kidnapping, and has to deal with strangers interviewing her. Since the day she got in, she had cameras and microphones in her face. When she hears about the idea to for many of people to ask questions, you’d think she would say no. But she wanted to do it.

I'm having an internal conflict with myself. Many years after Addie is kidnapped, Darrow is working as a spy, and has to get from a dark ally to a bar. While he's walking, he notices a black van, looking suspicious, and following him. The van followed Darrow 2 miles, until Darrow got to the bar. Once he walked in, the van drove away. His boss called, and asked "Did anybody notice you?", but Darrow said no.

In "Zero Day", there is lots of self-to-self conflict. When Addie Webster gets kidnapped, everyone thinks of the what-ifs and thinks that the kidnapping is their fault. Her father thought "What if I just checked on my daughter?". Her mother thought "What if I'd delayed the meeting about the new software rollout?". And most of all, her best friend, Darrow, was thinking "What if I just let Addie win that stupid game?".

Addie Webster from the book "Zero Day" is very competitive. Darrow Furgusson, Addie's best friend, says that she wins at everything, from board games to breath-holding competitions. When Darrow was about to win at a connect-4 game, Addie "slipped" and knocked over the game. As Darrow accused her of cheating, she said: "I don't cheat! And I was done with that dumb game anyway!"(3), then she ran away.
